Benefic Planets

The position of planets in a horoscope play a major role in determining the life pattern of the native. Planetary conjunctions are important in terms of astrological predictions. The conjunction can be with benefic planets or with malefic planets. Conjunction of good planets yield beneficial results, while bad ones create a negative influence on the life of the native.

Traditionally, Jupiter is considered to be the greater benefic, while Venus has been assigned the position of the lesser benefic. The Sun, Moon and Neptune are considered to be moderately fortunate in their influences.

Jupiter is the most benefic planet of all the 9 planets.Venus is the 2nd most benefic planet. Next Mercury is considered to be a benefic planet followed by Venus and Jupiter. When Jupiter is placed in the ascendant most of the negative factors of the horoscopes get destroyed. Horoscope strongly under the influence of Jupiter makes a native wise, magnanimous, jovial and mild in his actions. The benefic aspect of this planet makes a person uncomfortable while doing something wrong.

Those having Venus exalted at birth are usually extremely beautiful with sparkling eyes, smooth face with dimples on their cheek. Venus is the “Star of destiny” for Taurus and Libra as Venus rules these zodiac signs.
The native born under the influence of Mercury have deep forehead, straight nose, thin lips and narrow face and a strong memory. It is the ruler of Gemini and Virgo zodiac sign. The Moon influenced person has fair stature, pale complexion, round face, bright eyes thick and short arms.

Hence, we can say that the order of benefic planets from highest level of benefic to the lowest is Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and Moon although Mercury and Moon are conditional benefics. The rest of the planets are considered to be malefic. However, it would be incorrect to conclude that horoscopes ruled by benefic planets are better than ruled by malefic planets.

Benefics become malefics and Vice versa

The above description of benefic planets has been given on the basis of natural benefic planets. But there is a diference as per ascendant, the same natural benefic planet may become dire malefic. It will purely depend on the condition and placement of a planet as per ascendant. For example we have read that Jupiter is the number one benefic planet, but in the case of Taurus ascendent, Jupiter becomes the Lord of the 8th and 11th house and hence becomes malefic for the Taurus ascendant. Similarly Venus is regarded as a natural benefic planet but for Pisces ascendant, in that case Venus becomes the Lord of the 3rd and 8th house and hence becomes dire malefic to the native of Pisces ascendant.

In another case Mars is considered as natural malefic, but for Cancer ascendant it becomes the Lord of 5th house and 10th house, one is Kendra house and the other is a Trikona Sthana. In such a situation Mars becomes Yogakaraka planet for the Cancer ascendant and will be the most beneficial planet for the native. Dasha or antardasha of Mars will give very good results to the native. Similarly for Leo ascendant Mars again will be the Lord of the 4th house, kendra Sthana and 9th house the house of destiny and father, here also Mars is Yogakaraka and will generate excellent results.

Saturn is another natural malefic planet, but in the case of Libra ascendant it owns 4th Kendra house and fifth Trikona Sthana. Here it becomes Yogakaraka planet for the Libra ascendant and in the Dasha and Antardasha of Saturn, the native will enjoy his life like a king and everything will run smooth during this period. Similar results for Saturn will be observed for the Taurus ascendant.

Now we take the case of Rahu and Ketu, they are considered natural malefic planets, however it will depend on the placement in a horoscope what results they will generate.If Rahu is placed in a Kendra or Trikona house without any affliction, then it will give results as per the depositor of Rahu, it being a Kendra Lord will always generate positive results for the native.

To conclude we can say benefic and malefic planets are decided as per the ascendant and their placement in a horoscope.
