States of Planets
The auspicious and inauspicious character of a planet is decided according to the position of the planet at the time of birth. Apart from this, the results of a planet depend upon the degree of the planet and the sign of the planet at the time of birth. The state of the planet according to the degrees of the planet is known as Baladi state and the state of the planet according to the sign of the planet is known as Deeptadi state.
Sage Parashar gave various states of a planet to analyse the quantitative capacity of planets for giving results. The states which are used prominently to make astrological predictions are as follows:
- Deeptadi State
- Baladi State
- Jagritadi State
Apart from this, sage Parashar has mentioned few more states of planets. Auspicious and strong planets yield good results. All the states follow this rule. Let us first understand the Deeptadi state.
There are ten states in Deeptadi state. These ten states are made according to the position of planets in a sign. A planet can be in exalted sign, debilitated sign, friendly sign, enemy sign and in combust state in a sign.

The next State or avastha is Baladi,Kumar, Yuva,Vridha and mrita avastha.It depends on the degrees of planets. In odd signs each avastha is of six degrees in ascending order and this order is reversed in even signs.

The next avastha is Jagrit or awakening avastha.When a planet is in its exaltation sign, it is in an awakening state. A planet in its friends sign or in a neutral planet sign is in a state of Dreaming. A planet in an enemy sign is called to be in a sleeping state.
There are yet other avasthas Lajjita,garvita,kshudhita,trashita, mudita and kshobhita.These are of six types of states. If a planet is situated in the fifth house and in conjunction with Rahu or Ketu or Saturn or Mars, it is said to be in lajjita state.A planet in Exaltation or mooltrikona sign is in a state of garvita. A planet in an enemy sign or in conjunction with an enemy planet is in a state of kshudhita. A planet in a watery sign in conjunction with a malefic planet or in an enemy sign without benefic aspect is said to be in a trashita state.If a planet is in a friends sign or in conjunction with a benefic is said to be in a mudita state.A planet in conjunction with the Sun and aspected by malefics and also by his enemy is said to be in a shobhita avastha or state The effects of kshudhita and shobhita houses in which these planets are situated is destroyed.
The study of the above states of planets have a bearing on the outcome of results given by these planets according to their avasthas or states.
