Main Yogas in Astrology

Yogas are made in two ways in Vedic astrology: one due to the distance of degrees between Sun and Moon and second when planets form relationships with each other. Here, we will discuss how Yogas are formed through relationship of planets. Yogas which are made by planetary combination are very auspicious and influential. Yogas which are made through planetary combination are as follows:

1. Mahaparush Yoga

Mahapurush Yogas form when planets form relationships with Kendra. These Yogas are also known as Panch-Mahapurush Yogas.

a) Ruchak Yoga
When Mars is placed in one of the Kendra houses (1, 4, 7, 10) while it is placed in its own sign or exalted sign, then Ruchak Yoga forms in the birth-chart.

b) Bhadra Yoga
When Mercury is placed in one of the Kendras while it is located in Gemini or Virgo, then Bhadra Yoga forms in the birth-chart.

c) Hansa Yoga
When Jupiter is located in one of the Kendras (1, 4, 7, 10) while it is in its own sign or exalted sign, then this Yoga forms in the birth-chart.

d) Malavya Yoga
When Venus is placed in one of the Kendras while it is placed in its own sign or exalted sign, then Malavya Yoga forms in the birth-chart.

e) Shasha Yoga
When Saturn is placed in one of the Kendras while it is in its own sign or exalted sign, then Shash Yoga forms in the birth-chart.

Apart from these Yogas, there are some other Mahapurush Yogas which are as follows:

2. Gajkesari Yoga

When Jupiter is located in the Kendra from Moon then Gajkesari Yoga forms, which is one of the Mahaparush Yogas.

3. Moon and Mars Yoga
If Moon and Mars form a conjunction in the birth-chart, then this Yoga forms.

4. Sun – Budhaditya Yoga
If Sun and Mercury form a conjunction in the birth-chart then Sun – Budhaditya Yoga forms, which is the most auspicious Yoga.

5. Sign Change Auspicious Yogas
When two planets change their signs with each other then this Yoga forms. For example, when Mars is located in Taurus or Libra and Venus is placed in the sign Aries or Scorpio, then this Yoga forms between them because these planets are placed in each other’s sign.

Different sign change Yogas are as follows:

a) This yoga forms when Sun is in Cancer and Moon is in Leo.
b) When Sun is located in the sign Aries or Scorpio and Mars is placed in the sign Leo, then this Yoga forms in the birth-chart.
c) When Sun is placed in the sign Virgo and Mercury is located in the sign Leo then this Yoga forms.
d) This Yoga forms when Sun is located in the sign Sagittarius or Pisces and Jupiter is located in the sign Leo.
e) When Sun is placed in Libra and Venus is placed in Leo, this Yoga forms.
f) When Sun is located in Capricorn or Aquarius and Saturn is located in Leo then this Yoga forms.
g) This Yoga forms when Moon is located in the sign Aries or Scorpio and Mars is in Cancer.
h) When Moon is placed in Gemini or Virgo and Mercury is in Cancer then sign change Yoga forms in the birth-chart.
i) Sign change Yoga forms when Moon is placed in Sagittarius or Pisces and Jupiter is placed in the sign Cancer.
j) When Moon is placed in the sign Taurus and Venus is placed in the sign Cancer then this Yoga forms in the birth-chart.
k) When Moon is placed in the sign Capricorn or Aquarius and Saturn is in the sign Cancer then this Yoga forms in the birth-chart.
l) This Yoga forms when Mars is in Gemini or Virgo and Mercury is in Aries or Scorpio.
m) This Yoga forms when Mars is in Sagittarius or Pisces and Jupiter is in Aries or Scorpio.
n) This Yoga forms when Mars is in Taurus or Libra and Venus is in Aries or Scorpio.
o) When Mars is located in Capricorn or Aquarius and Saturn is in the sign Aries or Scorpio then this Yoga forms in the birth-chart.
p) When Mercury is in Sagittarius or Pisces and Jupiter is in Gemini or Virgo then this Yoga forms in the birth-chart.
q) This Yoga forms when Mercury is located in the sign Taurus or Libra and Venus is placed in the sign Gemini or Virgo.
r) This Yoga forms when Mercury is placed in the sign Capricorn or Aquarius and Saturn is located in the sign Gemini or Virgo.
