Karakas in Jaimini Astrology

Jaimini astrology is different from Parashari astrology. For example, Jaimini astrology is based on houses and it does not consider Nakshatra, Tithis and days whereas Parashari astrology is based on Nakshatras,Tithis and days. Results of houses and signs are similar in Jaimini astrology whereas there are many differences in the results of signs and houses in Parashari astrology. There are variable Karakas in Jaimini astrology and in Parashari astrology, there are constant Karakas. In Parashari astrology, planetary strengths are considered by tough calculations whereas Jaimini astrology has simple rules to consider planetary strengths.

As per Jaimini astrology, each Karaka plays an important role in the analysis of horoscope. Each planet is the indicator of different events of life. Functions of the Karaka planets are similar to the functions of the houses in the birth-chart.To calculate Jaimini Karakas, note down the degrees of each planet in the birth chart and start from the higher degree planet if possible upto seconds.Tabulate them from higher to lower degrees and starting from higher degrees first is Atmakaraka and so on as described below.

Main Karakas in Jaimini Astrology

Atamakaraka
This is the chief Karak planet among all the planets. Planet which has maximum degrees amongst all the planets will be the Atmakaraka planet. Atmakaraka planet should be placed in a good position because its strength or weakness will influence the entire birth-chart of the person. The natural Atamakarak planet is Sun.It is considered king in the horoscope as it will command the output of all planets. There are Rajyogas which are formed in association with Amatyakaraka, Putrakaraka, Darakaraka and fifth Lord of horoscope in Jaimini system of astrology.

Amatyakarak
Among all the planets, planet which has lesser degrees than Atamakaraka but more than other Karakas will be the Amatyakaraka. Literal meaning of Amatyakaraka is companion of the king or minister so it gets second position in planetary cabinet. There is no natural planet of Amatyakaraka but Mercury is considered as the natural Amatyakaraka planet. Amatyakaraka planets reflect financial condition of the native. Amatyakaraka forms Rajyogas in association with Atmakaraka, fifth Lord of horoscope and Darakaraka. It forms three Rajyogas in association with those mentioned above.

Bhratri Karaka
Planet which has lesser degrees than Amatyakarak will be the Bhratri Karaka planet. It is the Lord of siblings and Mars is the planet of brothers and sisters. Therefore natural planet of Bhratri Karaka is Mars.

Matrukaraka
Among all the planets, planet which has lesser degrees than Bhratri Karaka will be the Matrukaraka. It is the Lord of mother and it is naturally represented by the Moon.

Putrakaraka

Gnathukaraka
Planet which has lesser degrees than the degrees of Putrakaraka will be the Gnatikaraka. It is the Lord of relations. Therefore its natural planet is Mars. This is also looked into to comprehend the health of the native.

Darakaraka
It has the lowest degrees in all the Karakas. It is the Lord of spouse. Natural planet of Darakaraka is Venus. It is a Karaka related to marriage. While deciding the marriage of the native the position of Darakaraka is important in deciding the prospects and timing of marriage. It also takes part in formation of Raj Yogas in association with Atmakaraka, Amatyakaraka, Putrakaraka and fifth Lord of the horoscope.

There are seven Karakas which Gemini astrologers use, when two planets are on the same degrees, then counting can be done upto seconds to differentiate. The Navamsa occupied by Atmakaraka is known as Karakamsha. It has its significance in predictive methods.

Atmakaraka keeps changing its position in Jaimini predictions, Char Dasha period is assigned as Lagna and accordingly it will keep changing which shows that unknown Karma keep sprouting when it is least expected. Rahu and Ketu are not considered in Karakas.
