Assessment of Time
Mundan Sanskara should be performed in odd years like first, third, fifth or seventh year from his birth-year. Astrology believes that Chudakarana Samskara or Mundan Sanskara should not be performed in even years i.e. second, fourth and sixth. Chuda karana Samskara or Mundan Sanskara of the elder boy or girl of the family should be done when Sun is located in the Taurus sign. Astrologers say if the age of the child is 5 yrs or less and the mother is 5 months pregnant then Mundan Samskara should not be performed during that period.
Aspect of Sun
During the Assessment of Muhurtha for Mundan Sanskara you should consider the location of Sun. If Sun is located in Capricorn, Aquarius, Aries, Taurus or Gemini then it is auspicious. You can assess the Muhurtha for Mundan Sanskara in consideration of the aspect of Sun.
Consideration of Nakshatra
The auspicious Nakshatras for Chuda karan Mundan Samskara are Swati, Punarvasu, Shravana, Ghanishtha, Shatbhisha, Ashwini, Hast, Pushya, Mrighshira, Raivati, Chitra and Jyeshtha. You can perform this Sanskara in the presence of any of these Nakshatras.
Date
For this Sanskara: Second, Third, Fifth, Seventh, Tenth, Eleventh and Thirteenth dates are considered very auspicious.
Day
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are auspicious days to perform Mundan Samskara.
Consideration of Ascendant
In astrology, the Ascendant should be auspicious for Mundan or Chuda karan Sanskara. For this Sanskara, all the Ascendants are auspicious except the Ascendant of the birth-sign to the eighth sign. Ascendant and Navmansh of sign should be auspicious for Chuda karan Sanskara. When an auspicious planet is located in Kendra or Trine and a malefic planet is located in the third, sixth and eleventh house and no planet is located in the eighth house then it is an auspicious Muhurtha for Mundan Samskara.
Caution
According to the principles of Astrology if Moon transits through the fourth, eighth and twelfth house from the Birth-moon then this Sanskara should not be performed. It should also be avoided in the presence of third, fifth and seventh Tara.
