Some Doshas are important and must be considered while finding a Muhurat for marriage. Here we will discuss Paat Dosha which is one of the ten inauspicious Doshas considered to judge marriage Muhurat. Let us understand how this Dosha is formed.

If Moon is placed in the Harshan, Vaidhriti, Vyatipat, Shoola or Gand Nakshatra then Paat Dosha may be formed. Paat Dosha Yoga is formed when the Moon and the Sun are in a specific distance from each other, thus, marriage Nakshatra should be compared with the Nakshatra of Sun to determine the presence of Paat Dosha.

Let us consider the conditions when Paat Dosha is present.

  1. If Moon is placed in the Rohini Nakshatra and Sun is placed in the Ardra, Punarvasu, Shatabhisha, Purva Phalguni, Chitra or Moola Nakshatra then Paat Dosha is formed.

  2. If Moon is placed in the Mrigashira Nakshatra and Sun is also placed in the Mrigashira, Adra, Jyeshtha, Ghanishtha, Magha or Hast Nakshatra then Paat Dosha forms.

  3. If Magha is the Nakshatra of Moon and Sun is in the Ashwini, Mrigshira, Jyeshtha, Pushya, Hast or Revathi Nakshatra then Paat Dosha may result into problems in life.

  4. Paat Dosha is formed if Moon is placed in the Uttara Phalguni Nakshatra and Sun is placed in the Kritika, Adra, Vishakha, Purvafalguni, Uttarafalguni or Purvabhadrapad.

  5. If Moon is placed in the Hasta Nakshatra and Sun is in the Bharani, Mrigshira, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Swati or Magha Nakshatra then Paat Dosha forms.

  6. If the Moon is placed in the Swati Nakshatra and Sun is in the Kritika, Shravan, Ghanishtha, Pushya, Hast or Revathi Nakshatra then Paat Dosha is created.

  7. If Moon is in the Anuradha Nakshatra and Sun is in the Ashwini, Adra, Uttarashadha, Purva Phalguni, Purvashadha, Purva Bhadrapada Nakshatra then this Muhuruat will be not auspicious for marriage.

  8. If Moon is in the Moola Nakshatra on the day of marriage and Sun is in Rohini, Jyeshtha, Ghanishtha, Ashlesha, Moola, Uttara Bhadrapada Nakshatra then Paat Dosha forms.

  9. If Moon is in Uttarashadha Nakshatra and Sun is in Kritika, Adra, Vishakha, Purvafalguni, Uttarafalguni or Purvabhadrapad Nakshatra then Paat Dosha is generated.

  10. If Moon is in the Uttarabhadrapad Nakshatra and Sun is in Bharani, Shatbhisha, Vishakha, Uttarafalguni, Moola, Purvafalguni Nakshatra then this Muhurat will not give auspicious results for marriage.

  11. If Moon is placed in Revati Nakshatra and Sun is placed in Ashwini, Magha, Ghanishtha, Jyeshtha, Swati or Purva Phalguni Nakshatra then Paat Dosha is formed.

When the Sun and the Moon are in the same Nakshatra the Moon gets affected. If they are in the same quarter or in the same pada then the Paat Dosha is more adverse as the harmful effects will be felt more and will cause more harm when in the same Nakshatra and Pada.
