Rambha Tritiya 2024

The Tritiya of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month is celebrated as Rambha Tritiya. This year, Rambha Tritiya will be celebrated on 08 June 2024. Apsara Rambha is worshiped on this day. We can find descriptions about the Apsaras in our scriptures the Veda Puranas. As per the scriptures, these Apsaras live in the Devlok.

Apsara Rambha was born from the sea during the Samudra Manthan, hence Goddess Rambha is worshiped on this day. Married women also observe fast on this day for the long life of their spouse, good luck and happiness. Unmarried girls observe this fast so that they find a suitable groom. It is believed that this fast provides fruits quickly.

Mythological reference to Apsaras

Apsaras are related to Devlok and heaven. Devlok represents divine happiness, prosperity and enjoyment. The presence of Apsaras depicts the beauty of a woman and her ability to fascinate anyone. Apsaras have divine powers with which they can hypnotize anybody.

Atharveda and Yajurveda also have references about the Apsaras In the Satapatha Brahmin, the Apsaras are depicted swimming as birds in ponds. The description of the famous Apsara Urvashi is found in the Rigveda. Apart from this, the Puranas mention how Indra would call upon Apsaras to break the penance of sages who are engaged in austerities. Some popular and special Apsaras are Rambha, Urvashi, Tilottama, Maneka, Ghritachi and Kunda etc.

Mythological stories of Apsaras Urvashi’s freedom from Ravana’s curse, stories of Pururava, Vishwamitra and Maneka, Tilotama and Rambha have been very popular. Apsaras are famous for their beauty, influence and powers. Among these Apsaras, Rambha is one of the most popular.

Story of Rambha’s birth from the Samudra Manthan

Daitya Raj Bali’s kingdom had spread across all the three worlds. This led to a scare amongst the Devas including India. They wanted to reclaim their kingdom. So all the Devas along with Brahmaji approach Lord Vishnu for a solution. In such a way, Brahma Ji along with the Gods go to Shri Vishnu to restore the place of the Gods. Lord Vishnu calls for a Samudra Manthan through the combined effort between the Devas and Daityas. He informed the Devas that they will be able to regain their control only if they consume the Amrut that will be derived from the Samudra Manthan of Shir Sagar.

Lord Vishnu incarnates himself as a tortoise to carry out the Samudra Manthan. He supports the Mandarachal Mountain on his back to facilitate Samudra Manthan. This way several items are obtained from the Samudra Manthan. An Apsara Rambha and a Kalpvruksh too are obtained out of this Manthan. Both of these receive a place in the Dev Lok. Finally, even Amrut is obtained from this Manthan. The Devas consume this Amrut and receive their powers again. Indra Raj then defeats Daitya Raj Bali and reclaims the Indralok.

Rambha was born from the Samundra Manthan on account of fourteen Stotras, hence these Stotras are considered very beneficial and are worshipped widely. They are as follows:

लक्ष्मीः कौस्तुभपारिजातकसुराधन्वन्तरिश्चन्द्रमाः।

गावः कामदुहा सुरेश्वरगजो रम्भादिदेवांगनाः।

Rambha Teej Katha

On the occasion of Rambha Teej, married women perform this fast mainly for the long life of their husbands and unmarried girls fast on this day for the attainment of a worthy groom. Rambha is considered to be the form of Shri Lakshmi and also the form of Shakti, a devotee is blessed with both of these by worshiping Rambha on this day.

The story of Rambha Tritiya goes like this, there was once a happy Brahmin couple. They used to worship Goddess Lakshmi regularly. However one day the Bharmin had to travel out of the village for work. He explains this to Bhramini and leaves for work. However, the Bharmini starts feeling very upset as the Bharmin does not return for several days. She remains despaired and stressed. One night she dreams that her husband has had an accident. She wakes up from a dream and starts mourning. Just then, Goddess Lakshmi comes to her house in the disguise of an old woman. The old woman asks Bharmini the reason behind her sorrow. Brahmani then narrates the entire story to the old woman.

As a solution, the old woman asks the Brahmani to fast on the Rambha Tritiya which falls in the Jyeshtha month. The Brahmini fasts and worships on the day of Rambha Tritiya as told by that old woman. As a result of this fast, her husband returns home safely. Just as the influence of Rambha Teej protected the spouse of the Brahmin, it protects the spouse of all women who observe this fast.

Some stories related to Apsara Rambha

The description of Rambha is also found in the Ramayana period. Rambha was a famous Apsara in all three worlds. There is also a mention of Rambha as the wife of Nalkuber, the son of Kuber.

According to a legend, when Rambha comes to dissolve Vishwamitra’s penance, Vishwamitra curses Rambha to become Shila. Then Rambha is freed from the curse by a Brahmin. In another situation, Rambha also curses Ravana when Ravana misbehaves with Rambha.

Importance of Rambha Tritiya Pujan

On the day of Rambha Teej, married women worship pairs of bangles with wheat, cereal and flowers. Unmarried girls keep this fast to get married to a suitable groom. Performing Puja on the day of Rambha Tritiya ensures one is blessed with everything related to beauty such as attractive beautiful clothes, ornaments and cosmetics. He started reciting the name of Shri Hari and adopted Vanprastha to get free from worldly life and accepted Sanyaas. During his roaming, he visited Pitralok. There he sees that his ancestors are being troubled.

When Dharamvaran asks the reason for this suffering, ancestors explain that due to renunciation of worldly life and not following Grihasth life, their family couldn’t grow further and due to this they are suffering. If Dharam Varan will not have a child then who will perform the Pind Daan. We will keep on suffering and will not get liberation. Therefore, for our liberation, you follow the life of the householder and open the path of our liberation and offer us with Pind Daan on the coming Vaishakh Amavasya day. When will Som Pradosh Vrat occur in 2024 ?

This year Som Pradosh Vrat will be celebrated on

20 May 2024

An individual’s all wishes are fulfilled by observing the Pradosh Vrat. All projects materialise. When one worships Lord Shiva with complete devotion and follows all the rituals all his/her wishes come true. As per religious scriptures, Pradosh Vrat not only provides happiness but it ensures the welfare of the person who observes this fast. On the day of Pradosh Vrat, the devotee should wake up in Brahma Muhurta, take a bath, finish all daily chores and then worship Lord Shiva with complete focus.

Som Pradosh Vrat Katha

Listening to Som Pradosh Vrat Katha on the day of the fast is considered auspicious. The fruits of the fast increase by listening and reading the Som Pradosh Katha. Several mythological stories on Som Pradosh Vrat are heard. The most popular one is as follows:

A widow whose husband had died long ago lived in a city with her only son. They lived in a small house and had no other shelter. They did not even have the means to fulfill their basic meals. They depended on Bhiksha for their livelihood. She used to regularly wake up early and go out with her son asking for Bhiksha. Bhikshtan was her only option and both the mother and son depended on it for their livelihood.

One day, on her way back from Bhikshtan, the Brahmini saw an injured child. The child was crying in pain. The Brahmini pitied the child and brought the child home. She took good care of him and treated him to the best of her abilities.

That child was the son of the King of Vidarbha. Enemies had attacked his territory. The enemies took control of the King’s territory and arrested him. But the prince escapes. On a run, he meets the Brahmini and starts living with her and her son.

The prince stays there for a very long time, without revealing his identity. Once upon a time, Anshumati, a Gandharva girl, spots the prince. The prince’s handsome looks and qualities impress Anshumati and she decides to marry the prince.

Anshumati proposes to the prince and asks him to meet her parents. The parents of Anshumati like the king. After a few days, Lord Shiva comes in the dreams of Anshumati’s parents and asks them to get her married. The Gandharva couple agrees for the marriage of the prince and their daughter. Finally, the marriage is solemnised.

The Brahmani, as a rule, always observed the Pradosh Vrat. As a result, the prince along with the help of the Gandharva community gets his territory back and defeats the enemies. After capturing his kingdom, the prince appoints the son of the Brahmini as his Raj Mantri. Just as the life of the prince, Brahminni and her son turned around owing to the glory of Pradosh fast, similarly Lord Shiva turns around the days of all the devotees who observe the Pradosh Vrat.

Damanak Chaturthi 2024 : Damanak Chaturthi Puja Procedure

The festival of Damanak Chaturthi is celebrated to please Lord Ganesha. This festival is celebrated on the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. This year Damanak Chaturthi will be celebrated on 12 April
2024. Lord Shri Ganesh is also known by the name Damanak. For this reason, Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month is also called Ganesh Damanak Chaturthi.

Lord Shri Ganesha is the destroyer of all problems, miseries, differences etc. Hence fasting and worshiping Lord Ganesha on this day of Daman Chaturthi, end all sufferings. Enemies too are destroyed.

Damanak Chaturthi Story

There is also an ancient legendary story associated with Damanak Chaturthi. According to this legend, there was once a king who had two wives and both of them had one son each. One Queen’s son’s name was Ganesh and the other Queen’s son’s name was Damanak. Both the children were very well raised, but for a small difference. Whenever Ganesh visited his maternal grandfather, everyone loved him a lot and was well taken care of. But on the other hand, whenever Damanak went to his maternal grandfather, he could not find love there, his maternal uncles and daughters used to get him to do household chores and treated him badly.

When both the children returned home from their maternal home, Ganesha brought a lot of gifts, toys and sweets with him, but Damanak did not get anything from his maternal grandfather. He would come home empty handed. Over a period of time both grow up with their own share of happiness and sorrow. Eventually, they get married and both go to their in-law’s house. Once again Ganesh is highly respected and loved by his in-laws. He is fed several dishes and sweets.

However, when Damanak visits his in-laws, they do not take any special care of him. Infact, they do not even allow him to sleep with them. They make him sleep in the horse’s stable by giving some excuse.

Ganesha brings a lot of goods from her in-laws but Damanak comes back empty-handed, he does not get anything. An old lady had been watching both of them since childhood. She felt very sorry for Damanak. One day, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati come to earth to know the joys and sorrows of those who live on earth. At that time the old lady approaches them with folded hands. She shares the story of Ganesh and Damanak with the Lord and his wife. She questions the Lord as to why Damanak has never been able to get pleasure from his maternal grandmother and now in his youth, he has to bear the contempt from his in-laws too.

At that time Lord Shiva informs that in his previous life Ganesha used to return back anything that was given to him in some form or the other. If nothing else, he would gift various items to the children of his maternal uncles and aunts. Likewise, he has also returned the favours of his in-laws’ house, which he had taken in his previous birth, he had also given back everything. That is why in this birth he still gets a lot of respect and honor from his maternal side and father-in-law’s side.

On the other hand, Damanak never returned what he received from his maternal and in-laws’ side in his former birth. He used to remain very busy with his work and did not take the time out to get anything for his maternal family or in-laws. As a result, in this birth he will not get anything from his maternal family and in-laws. All of his expectations will go unfulfilled.

The moral of the story is that we must always try to return anything received from others. We must ensure we do not snatch what belongs to another and ensure the deserving person gets what he is supposed to get. Even if you are in love with someone, you should try to return anything received from that person in some form or the other. This is true especially for maternal family and in-laws. Anything that is taken or eaten should be returned to the children of the family if not the adults. This will double the benefit, however, if one does not return then sooner or later the person has to pay up.

Ganesh Puja Procedure

Lord Ganesha is worshiped on the day of Damanak Chaturthi. One should wake up early in the morning on this day and recite the 11 names of Ganesha which are Ekadanta, Gajakarna, Lombodar, Kapil, Gajanan, Vikat, Vibhinashka, Vinayak, Bhalchandra, Smokketu, Ganapadha. One should take a bath only after reciting the 11 names.

Anang Trayodashi Vrat Katha

Lord Shiva gets very disturbed when Goddess Sati gives up her life in Daksha Prajapati’s Yagya. He lifts Sati’s dead body on his shoulders and leaves the place. This leads to upheaval in the universe and the destructive powers of nature become stronger. To end this crisis, Lord Vishnu divides the body of Sati in different parts and Lord Shiva starts meditating.

However, the tyranny of the demon Tarakasura keeps increasing day by day. He attacks Devlok and defeats Devraj Indra. This situation worries all the Devas. Lord Indra along with all the Devas visit Lord Brahma and seek his help to fight against Tarakasura and reclaim their kingdom. Lord Brahma thinks over this problem and then tells the Devas that only the son of Lord Shiva can kill Trakasur. This leads to even more stress as Lord Shiva was meditating and Goddess Sati is no more.

There was absolutely no scope of Goddess Sati bearing a son unless Lord Shiva gave life to Goddess Sati again. This would be possible only if Lord Shiva’s meditation is broken. Kamdev decides to wake Shiva from his meditative state. Kamdev breaks Lord Shiva’s meditation with the help of a Trishul.

However, Lord Shiva gets angry and opens his third eye. The eye that causes destruction. As a result, Kamadev loses his body. When everyone informs Lord Shiva as to why Kamdev broke his meditation, Lord Shiva realises his mistake and calms down.

Lord Shiva then decides to bless Kamadev with a life again. He informs Rati to wait till Trayodashi. Lord Shiva declares once Lord Vishnu will take birth in the form of Lord Krishna, Kamadev will take birth in the form of Pradyumn, the son of Lord Krishna. This way he will again get a life.

Anang Trayodashi: Kandarp Ishwar Darshan

Kamadev is also known as Kandarp. Worshipping Lord Kandarp in Ujjain on this day is considered highly auspicious. It is believed that the devotees who worship Lord Shiva and Lord Kandarp of Ujjain are blessed with a place in Dev Lok.

When Lord Shiva informs Rati about the rebirth of Kamadev in the form Pradyumn, he also mentions that whoever will observe Anang Trayodashi fast properly, will be blessed with a happy married life. They will also have peace, calm and wealth in their married life. The devotee will also be blessed with a child on observing the fast.
