Vaishakh Amavasya Katha
There are many famous stories about Vaishakh Amavasya out of which one of them is – in ancient times, a Brahmin named Dharmavarna used to live in a city. That Brahmin was of a pure and Sattvik tendency. Despite being poor, he was always engaged in performing auspicious deeds by mind and action. He always used to help the needy. He always respected the saints and Rishis. He used to participate in Satsangs also.
During one Satsang, he learned that in Kalyug, by reciting the name of Lord Vishnu all the problems are solved and by reciting the name of Shri Hari one gets auspicious results. (). He started reciting the name of Shri Hari and adopted Vanprastha to get free from worldly life and accepted Sanyaas. During his roaming, he visited Pitralok. There he sees that his ancestors are being troubled.
When Dharamvaran asks the reason for this suffering, ancestors explain that due to renunciation of worldly life and not following Grihasth life, their family couldn’t grow further and due to this they are suffering. If Dharam Varan will not have a child then who will perform the Pind Daan. We will keep on suffering and will not get liberation. Therefore, for our liberation, you follow the life of the householder and open the path of our liberation and offer us with Pind Daan on the coming Vaishakh Amavasya day. Listening to this, he promises his ancestors. He renounces sanyas and enters the household life, completing worldly tasks. He got blessed with a child and on the coming Amavasya, he performs the Pind Daan with all the rituals.
