According to Hindu Panchang, Bhai Dooj or Yama Dwitiya is celebrated on the Dwitiya of Kartik Shukla Paksha.  It is a festival of faith and love of sisters towards their brother. After Rakhi, this is another festival of the year that depicts the love and bond of sisters and  brothers.

According to a mythological belief, Yamuna observed fast for her brother Yamraj’s longevity. Since that day, Bhai Dooj is celebrated to represent the feeling of respect and affection between brothers and sisters. Sisters pray for the longevity and prosperity of their brothers.

In the year 2024, Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on Dwitiya of 03 November . Bhai dooj is also known as Yama Dwitiya in many states. It is a festival of devotion and faith. There is a tradition of applying Sindoor on the hands of brother.

Bhaiya Dooj – Yama Dwitiya

In Hindu society, this festival is a symbol of affection and warmth between brother and sister. It is celebrated two days after Diwali. This day is also called Yama Dwitiya. Hence, Yama Deva is worshipped on Bhai Dooj. It is believed that people who worship Yam Dev does not have to face premature death.

In Hindus, this festival is also related to traditions like the others. On this day, sister apply Tilak on the forehead on their brother. They give gifts and pray for the longevity of their brothers. In return brothers take pledge of their sisters safety. Brother should have food in the house of their sister as this tradition is considered.

Historical Significance of Bhaiya Dooj

As per the story, Yam Dev visited his sister on this day. Yamuna, sister of Yam, was eagerly waiting to meet her brother. She was very happy by meeting his brother. She welcomed her brother wholeheartedly. Pleased by the sister, Yam gave a boon that if, brother and sister have a bath in Yamuna river on this day then they will receive salvation.

Hence, having a bath with brother or sister in Yamuna is of great significance on this day. Also, Yamuna asked her brother to take a pledge that every brother should go to her sister’s house on this day. From that time only, tradition of Bhai Dooj is carried on. Brothers who stay far from their sister, they go on Bhai Dooj to meet her. They get the Tilak applied and give gifts to their sisters.

Therefore, this auspicious day of Bhai dooj is celebrated to prevent untimely death of brothers. Those who take bath in Yamuna river, get relief from untimely death and attains salvation. There is a tradition of worshipping the lord at the bank of Yamuna river.

Shwetark Ganesha Sadhana – Lord Shwetark Ganesha

Lord Ganesha is worshipped in various different forms. Shwetark Ganesha is one of the form of Lord Ganesha worshipped in India. Religious people worship Shwetark Ganesha for wealth, prosperity and fame in life. It is believed that idol of Lord Ganesha gives fruitful results on being worshipped by his devotees. The roots of Scholastery plant appears in the shape of Lord Ganesha. This plant has white leaves and flowers. The upper surface of the rots of this plant is soaked into the water for some days before worshipping it.

The root of this plant appears to be in the shape of Lord Ganesha’s trunk. He believed to be the giver of wisdom and intelligence. Shwetark Ganesha provides wealth, wisdom and prosperity. Therefore, the root of Shwetak root is considered to be very auspicious and prosperous. Using this root during Guru Pushya Yoga gives highly beneficial results.

Rituals To Perform Shwetark Ganesha Puja

Establish the idol of Shwetark Ganesha in the east direction of the house. Red cloth, red seat, red flowers, red sandalwood and urad dal is used to worship Shwetark Ganesha. Chant the following mantra while offering your prayers to the lord, “Om Vakratundaya Hum”. Chant this mantra with devotion and faith to please the lord.

The rituals to worship Shwetark Ganpati can be found in Tantra shastra as well. According to Tantra shastra, establishing this idol brings wealth and prosperity in the life of the observer. The devotees gets freedom from the fear and attack of enemies. He received the blessings of Lord Ganesha for the rest of his life.

Significance of Shwetark Ganesha

Shwetark Ganpati is worshipped on the special ocassion of Diwali to get freedom from all kinds of obstacles and sufferings of life. Worshipping the lord with proper rituals on the night of Diwali ensures success and flow of wealth. The rituals to worship Shwetark Ganpati is very simple as compared to others.

Establishing the idol of Shwetark Ganpati with proper rituals and faith gives prosperous results. Chanting the mantra, “Om Namo Hastimujhaya Lambodaraya Uchishta Mahatmane Aan Krom Him Kalim Him Hum Ghe Ghe Uchishthaya Swaha” everyday for 10 rosary, makes all words accomplished.

Govatsa Dwadashi | Govatsa Dwadashi 2024 | Govatsa Dwadashi Fast

Govatsa Dwadashi fast is observed on the dwadashi krishna paksha of Kartik month.  In the year 2024, this festival will be celebrated on 28 October. Cows and calves are worshiped on this day. This fast is observed on the pradosh vyapini tithi. Incase someone does not find any cow or calf around the house, then the worshipping in done by making an idol of cow with mud. The observer have to intake only milk products on this day.

Lord Krishna was fond of cows. It is believed that all the gods and goddesses reside a cow. The items/products made of milk such as cottage cheese, kheer, curd etc are used in havana and puja. A mixture of five milk products is used for purification before the puja. The person observing Govatsa Dwadashi fast should adopt Brahmachari and sleep on the floor. The devotee should worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva with a pure heart. The observer is blessed with all kind of worldly pleasures in life.

Rituals To Perform Govatsa Dwadashi

The person observing the fast should wake up early in the morning and take bath in a river or lake. Wear clean clothes after bath and take the resolution for fast. The food is only eaten only once in the day time. The cow is given bath along with its calf and adorned with flowers and dupattas. Apply sandlawood on the forehead. Worship the cow with incences, flowers, water, rice, copper while chanting the below given chant.

Kakshiroarnasambhute Surasuranskriteya|
Sarvdemaya Matarghanadharya Namo Namah||

After performing this ritual, the observer should feed food items made with urad dal to the cow. Chant the following mantra while doing this ritual.

Tat Sarmeya Devi Sarverladkrite |
Martarmabhilashit Safalam Kuru Nandini ||

Significance of Govatsa Dwadashi

There are many legenda for Govatsa Dwadashi mentioned in ancient scriotures. according to these scriptures, a king named Utanpad was the one who started this fast on earth. His wife observed this fast and was as a consequence was blessed with a son. Thus, the childless couples should definitelky observe this fast to obstain the pleasure of a child. Skanda Shashti | Skanda Shasti Fast 2024 | Skanda Shashti Vrat

Shashti in Krishna Paksha of ashada shukla paksha sashti or Kartik month is known as Skanda Shashti. According to Puranas, Lord Kartikeya was born on Shashti tithi. Hence, Lord Skanda is worshipped on this day. This day is considered very important for keeping a fast. A person should begin the fast from Panchami. Lord Skanda should be worshipped on Shashti tithi.

This fast is considered to be very important in mythology. Due to this, Skanda Shashti is celebrated with a lot of devotion and dedication. It is believed that King Sharyati and Saint Bhargava are also associated with Skanda Shashti. It is also believed that Saint Chyavan receives his eyesight on this day.

According to Brahma Vaivarta Purana, a person’s dead child may come back to life due to this fast. Skanda Shashti worship is considered to be very important in Puranas. Lord Skanda, who originated through Lord Shiva’s energy, took six different forms which came to be known as Kartikeya. Puranas and Upanishads explain the importance and magnificence of Lord Skanda.

Skanda Shashti Worship

Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are worshipped on this day. A special worship is offered in temples. Lord Skanda’s idol is established and lamps are lit. Devotees consider this day to be very important and worship continuously. The Lord is given a bath and decorated with new clothes. He is also worshipped and offered food or sweets. Worshipping Lord Skanda and asking for something special is very beneficial on this day. Sadhna also plays an important role on this day. A person should not consume meat, alcohol, onion or garlic on this day.

Skanda Story

According to Puranas, there was a battle between Devas and Demons. In this battle, demons were dominated devas and as a result, devas went to Lord Brahma to ask for help. Lord Brahma told them that only Lord Shiva’s son would be able to kill the demons. However, Lord Shiva was in deep meditation after Goddess Sati’s death.

Lord Indra and other devas went to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva wanted to help devas and married Goddess Parvati. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married on an auspicious day. As a result, Kartikeya was born who killed Tarkasur. Devas regained their honor and dominance.

Skanda Shashti Importance

Lord Skanda is the Lord of power. Devas considered him to be a General at times of war. Lord Kartikeya is mostly worshipped in Southern India. He is known as Murugan in this region. Lord Kartikeya is associated with fame, victory, administration and discipline. Skanda Purana has been written about Lord Kartikeya. This is the biggest Purana of all.

Lord Skanda is one of the most important Devas in Hindi religion. He is also known as Kartikeya and Murugan. Lord Kartikeya is Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva’s son. He is mostly worshipped in Southern India. Tamil Hindus are usually devoted to Lord Kartikeya. He is mostly worshipped in Tamil Nadu. His most famous temples are also situated in Tamil Nadu.

Chaturdashi of Shukla Paksha of the Kartik month is known as Vaikunth Chaturdashi. In 2024, the fast will be kept on 14 November. Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are worshipped to end this fast. This day is also known as Baikunth Chaudas. Devotees keep a fast on this day. This fast is kept on the day of Kartik Shukla Chaturdashi. Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are worshipped on this day. A fast is kept which ends at the time of dawn on the next day.

Rituals To Perform Vaikunth Chaturdashi

There are certain rituals that should be followed to worship Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu should be worshipped with flowers, lamps, sandalwood etc. Devotees should recite Bhagavad gita and Shri Sukta and offer Lotus flower for the puja. Itb is believed that those who worship Lord Vishnu and listen to the story on this day, get relief from all sufferings of life. Worshipping Lord Vishnu with mantra and stotram path on this day takes a person to Baikunth dham after his death.

Vaikunth Chaturdashi Historical Importance

Once upon a time, Narad Muni reached Baikunth dham after wandering on the Earth. Lord Vishnu asked him to sit and then asked for the reason behind his visit. Narad Muni said that he felt as if the common people were left out of Lord Vishnu’s blessings and only the people who worshipped him regularly were blessed. Lord Vishnu replied by saying that any person who would worship him on the day of Vaikunth Chaturdashi would be blessed by him and would go to heaven.

Observing fast on Vaikunth Chaturdashi has special importance in Hindu culture. A bath should be taken early in the morning on this day. Clean clothes should then be worn. Lord Vishnu should be worshipped with flowers, lamps, sandal.  According to an ancient belief, Lord Vishnu swore that he would offer one thousand Lotus flowers to Lord Shiva in Kashi. Tus, who offer one thousand Lotus flowers to the lord gets relief from all sufferings and go to Baikunth dham after death. The devotees should light 14 diyas at the bank of the river in the evening.

Significance of Vaikuntha Chaturdashi

Kartik Shukla Chaturdashi is a symbol of the unity between Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. According to an ancient belief, Lord Vishnu swore that he would offer one thousand Lotus flowers to Lord Shiva in Kashi. Lord Shiva tested Lord Vishnu by decreasing the number of flowers by one. Lord Vishnu was then ready to offer his one eye in place of the flower.

Lord Shiva was impressed and appeared in front of him. Lord Shiva then said that Kartik Shukla Chaturdashi will be known as Kartik Baikunth Chaudas. Lord Shiva offered the Sudarshan Chakra to Lord Vishnu on this very day. On this day, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva said that the doors of heaven will be opened. A person fasting on this day would secure his place in heaven.

Govardhan Puja in Devotion on Lord Krishna

Govardhan Puja is specially celebrated at the birthplace of Krishna or the places linked with him. This festival signifies the honor and devotion of Lord Krishna in Hindu culture. Representing various beliefs and cultures, this festival bestows us with affection and happiness.

Govardhan Pooja

The idol of Lord Govardhannathji is created with the cow’s dung and annakut is offered as prasad. This tradition is been followed since ages. The Holy Govardhan parvat has been given great importance in the Hindu mythology. According to Shrimad Bhagvat, Lord Krishna  worshipped Govardhan parvat in Brij on the Pratipada Kartik Shukla Paksha, rather than  worshipping Lord Indra. This is the reason that even today Govardhan parvat is worshipped on the next day of Diwali.

Lord Krishna destroyed Lord Indra’s ego and worshipped Govardhan parvat on this day. The tradition of Annakut is also performed in temples and religious places. Lord Govardhan’s idol is made with cow dung and worshipped in the evening of Kartik Shukla Paksha. Lord Agni, Varuna, and other devas are also worshipped along with Lord Govardhan. Cows are worshipped on this day with flowers, dhoop, sandalwood etc. Govardhan puja is an important festivals of people living in Brij.

Govardhan Puja – Worshipping The Nature

This festival is celebrated to thank the nature for the gift and offerings that help people to live a healthy and prosperous life. With the tradition of worshipping Govardhan parvat, Lord Krishna told people about the significance and need of securing the nature. People from all around the country visit Mathura to worship the mountain every year.

Significance of Worshipping Govardhan

There is a famous story regarding Govardhan Puja. Story is of the time when lord Krishna used to take cows for feeding with all the Gopis and Gwals. When lord reached the Govardhan mountain then Gopies prepared 56 types of food and started singing and dancing. On asking, lord came to know that it was done to worship lord Indra. God Indra shall to the welfare of village on getting pleased. Which will result in the growing of crops. Lord Krishna told them, their mountains were better as they gave food to their cows.

People of Brij followed the words of lord Krishna and started worshipping Govardhan mountain. God Indra became angry on seeing that the public was worshipping Govardhan mountain instead of worshipping him. So, he ordered clouds to fall rain on Gokul so that life gets destroyed.

Everyone got scared by seeing this. All of them approached lord Krishna, and lord said them to reach the shelter of Govardhan mountain. Lord Krishna raised the mountain on his little finger. Public of Brij ran and went under the Govardhan mountain. Not even a single drop fell of the people of Brij. Seeing this, Indra Dev realized his mistake and asked forgiveness from lord Krishna. After 7 days, lord Krishna kept down the mountain and asked the public of Brij to worship Govardhan and Annakut every year. Since then, Goverdhan festival is celebrated on this day.

Govardhan Pooja  – Beginning Of Prosperity and Happiness

Worshipping Govardhan on this day brings wealth, prosperity and fortune. Govardhan mountain is created in the courtyard of the house. This day is celebrated as the cow day. It is believed, serving cows on this day gives favorable results.

In some areas, cow is made to have bath in the morning and decorated with saffron, rice, garlands etc. On the festival of Govardhan, cows and bulls are decorated and a small mountain of cow dung is created for worshipping. On the cow dung, Kheel, Batashe and toys made of sugar are offered.This festival is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm in Mathura and Vrindavan. Navedy of Chappan Bhog (56 food items) are offered to lord, in the evening.

Annakut Festival

Annakut festival is also related with Goverdhan festival. This day 56 kinds vegetables are mixed to prepare food which is called 56 Bhog. This day is celebrated as the thanks giving to the nature. It is believed that just by organising and visiting this festival, a person never faces the lack of food. He always has the grace of Annapurna. Annakut is the day of having collective food or in gathering. In this, whole family and society people prepare offerings for lord in a common kitchen and later take it in form of Prasad.

Rama Ekadashi Fast – Rama Ekadashi Fast 2024 – Rama Ekadasi Vrat

Observing Ekadashi fast is considered to be one of the most important fast in ancient scriptures. Ekadashi fast inspire people to walk on the path of salvation and culture. Rama Ekadashi fast is one of Ekadashi fasts observed in hindu culture. The fast of Rama Ekadashi is observed on Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha, Kartik Masa. In the year 2024, Rama Ekadashi will be on 28 November. On this day, Lord Vishnu is worshipped and reading Bhagwad Gita is considered to be auspicious.

Historical Significance of Rama Ekadashi

As per the legends,  there ruled a king named Muchukund. His friends included Indra, Varuna, Kuber etc. He was an honest person and a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. No evil work happened in his kingdom. A baby girl was born in his house. She was named Chadrabhaga. Later. the king married the girl to Shobhan, son of king Chandrasen.

Once on Ekadashi, Chandrabhaga was at her parents-in-laws house. She followed the tradition on fasting on Ekadasi. Her husband thought, he was physically weak and may not be able to keep the fast. So, he refused to observe the fast. On this, Chandrabhaga got upset.

She asked her husband to go to some other place if he wants to have food. She said, “If you will stay here, you will have to observe the fast.” Hearing this, Shobhan said “then I will stay here only and observe the fast.”

He observed the fast of Ekadashi and died from hunger and thirst. By the effect of Rama Ekadashi, Shobhan got a great kingdom. But, this kingdom was invisible. It was a unique kingdom.  Once, a Brahman of his wife’s kingdom went out to travel. He saw the kingdom of Shobhan, on his way. And Shobhan told him, that by the grace of Rama Ekadashi, he received this kingdom. He asked the Brahmin to tell about him and this kingdom to her wife. Brahman returned and told Chandrabhaga about the whole thing. Chandrabhaga had been observing the fast of Ekadashi since, her childhood. By the effect of all Ekadashi, she turned the kingdom of her husband, into a reality. And, started living with her husband in a divine form.

Result of Rama Ekadashi Fast

The Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha, Kartik Masa is called Rama Ekadashi. This Ekadashi is also called Rambha Ekadashi. By observing this fast, all sins of a person are removed. A person can even get rid of sin like Brahmhatya and get results equivalent to that of Vajepaye yagya.

Those suffering from troubles and obstacles of life must worship Lord Vishnu to get relief from their troubles. Offering Tulsi leaves to the lord on this Ekadashi removes all the past sins of a person’s life. Lord Vishnu gets pleased with gemstones, mani, pearl etc.

Lord Vigraha should be worshipped After meditation. Ofer water with flowers to the lord while chanting the mantras. Chant Kuber mantra for 1 lakh times and perform homa with five grains, ghee, sesame seeds, rice, honey, cloves etc.

Since Lord Kuber is considered to be the lord of North direction, all the prayers and homas are performed while facing the North direction. It is believed that worshipping the lord with  faith and devotion help attaining wealth, prosperity and fame. He is the provider of wealth and worshipped by all the other gods and goddesses. Goddess Lakshmi is also worshipped along with Lord Kuber. This is the reason that he is worshipped on Diwali with rituals and mantras.

Lord Kuber is blessed with fortune and is known to eliminate poverty of his devotees and provide them wealthy and prosperous life. Those who want to get relief from poverty and scarcity of money should worship him on Dhanteras, and Diwali.

Lakshmi puja on Diwali should be worshipped at an auspicious muhurat only. The puja time should be followed as per the time and date of the state/country you are residing in. Diwali will be celebrated In 2024, Diwali will be on 01th November. Amavasya date, Pradosh Kal, auspicious Lagna and Chaughadia Muhurat have special significance in Diwali. The Diwali is considered auspicious for businessman and people involved with dealings.

In 2024, diwali will be celebrated on 01 November  2024 ie. On this day, swati nakshatra will remain. On this day, yog and moon will in libra sign. On diwali, amavasya ithi, pradosh kaal, shubh lagna and chaugadiya muhurat holds great importance. Diwali is considered auspicious for merchants, buyers and sellers.

Material For Lakshmi Worship

Saffron, Roli, Rice, Pan, Supari (betel-nut), fruits, flowers, milk, Kheel, Batashe, Sindoor (Vermillion), Coins, Cloves, Coriander, Cardamom, Incense, Jaggery, Gangajal, Coconut, Five Gems, Wheat, Sandalwood, Perfume, Urn, White Cloth, Panchamrit, Lotus, Kuber Yantra, Shri Yantra, Picture or idol of Lakshmi Ganesh, Silver Coin, Sweets etc.

Rituals To Worship Goddess Lakshmi

Lakshmi puja should be performed a place where you keep your money or safe. Purify the place with gangajal and make a rangoli with beautiful colors and flowers. Take bath in the evening and wear new clothes before commencing the prayer.

Apsarpantu Te Bhuta Ye Bhuta Bhutle Sthith |

Spread a red cloth on a wooden platform and establish the idol of Lakshmi-Ganesha on it. Sit on a seat while facing east or north. Chant the mantra and sprinkle gangajal on you and the puja materials.

Mantra– Om Apvitra Pavitro Va Sarvavsthatam Gatopi Va |
Ya Smaret Pundrikansha Sah Bahyabhantar Shuchi ||

Now begin the puja with water and rice  and chant, “ Om Vishnuvirshnuvirshnu Shrimandagvato Mahapurushsya Vishnoragpravartmansya Brahmanosahin Dawitiyapradhem Shrishwetvarahakalpe Vivswatmanvantere Ashtavinshtitme Kaliyug Kaliprathamcharne Jambudawipe Bhartvarshe Aryavartekdeshe Adya Masottam Mase Kartikmase Krishpakshe Punyayammavasyayam Tithi”. Take the name of the day and gotra after the mantra.

Now chant, “ Ahamshrutismritipuranoktaphalavaptikamnaya Gyatagyatkayikawachikamansik Sakalpapnirvittpurvak Sthirlakshamirapteya Shrimahalakshamipujanam Kuberadinam Cha Pujan Karisheya | Tandtwen Gauriganpatyadipujan Cha Karisheya |

Now worship lord Ganesha with invite all the other gods and goddesses into the urn filled with rice, flowers and gangajal. Worship the goddess Lakshmi with rituals, along with Shri yantra, silver coin etc. Hold a Lotus flower and remember the goddess by chanting the below given mantra.
