Holika Dahan 2024 – Holika Dahan 24th March 2024

Holika Dahan is celebrated on Pradosh Vyapini Falgun Purnima in the absence of Bhadra. If Bhadra is present on this day, but it is declining before midnight, Holika Dahan is celebrated after midnight on this day. This has been explained in Shastras. However, if Bhadra is present till the next morning and Purnima ends till then, it is better to celebrate Holika Dahan on the same night in Pradosh Kal.

Holika Dahan will be celebrated in 24th March 2024.

Holi’s worship is auspicious when you avoid Bhadra Mukh and perform rituals in Nisha Mukh. According to astrology, festivals should also be celebrated according to Muhurats. This makes them auspicious. After Holika’s worship, Holika Dahan is celebrated. Holika Dahan is always celebrated after Bhadra. Hence, you should check this before performing rituals.

It is believed that if you celebrate Holika Dahan during Bhadra, it may be inauspicious for you. Moreover, Holika Dahan is also not celebrated on Chaturdashi or Pratipada. Holika Dahan should not be celebrated before sunset. Muhurat etc. should be noticed during Holika Dahan.

The place of worship should be cleaned and purified with Gangajal eight days before Holika Dahan. Dry cow dung, dry sticks and dry grass should be collected in the same place. This day is known as Holashtak. You should not perform any auspicious activities in this place till Holika Dahan. This place should be vacant for eight days.

Some sticks are collected in this place till the day of Holika Dahan from Holashtak. This way, a lot of sticks are accumulated till the day of Holika Dahan. People can be seen in a rejuvenating mood and playing with colors during this period. Adults as well as children start playing Holi from this day.

Magnificence of Magh Purnima 2024

Magh Purnima will be celebrated on 24 February 2024. According to Brahma Vaivarta Purana, Lord Vishnu resides in the water on Ganges on this day. Hence, it is believed that even touching the holy water of Ganges on this day provides salvation. It is also believed that Lord Vishnu is most impressed when a person takes a bath in the holy rivers on this day. Even fasts, donations or charities don’t impress him as much.

Donations, charities and yagyas organized on this day are considered to be very important. Lord Vishnu is worshipped and food, clothes, jaggery, ghee, laddoo, fruits, cereals etc. are donated. On the day of Magh Purnima, a person should wake up early and take bath in a nearby river before sunrise. After this, a person should worship Lord Vishnu. Black sesame seeds are used in the Magh month to make offerings to dead ancestors. Donating sesame seeds is considered to be very important during this month.

Magh Purnima is also known as Maghi Purnima. It is believed that a person is freed from all kinds of sins and problems if he takes a bath in the Ganges on this day. It also provides peace of mind and purity. A person should chant “Om Namah Bhagvate Vasudevaya Namah” while taking a bath.

Magh Purnima Worship

Lord Satyanarayana’s katha is organized on the day of Magh Purnima. Banana leaves, panchamrit, supari, pan, sesame seeds, red thread, sindoor, kumkum, durva etc. are used to worship Lord Satyanarayana. Panchamrit includes milk, honey, bananas, ganges water, tulsi leaves and sweets. Flour is also fried and sugar is mixed with it. This is used as prasad. Lord Satyanarayana is worshipped after the katha. After this, Goddess Laxmi, Lord Mahadev and Lord Brahma’s aartis are sung. Prasad and Charnamrit are distributed among everyone.

Ganga Snan (Bath) on Magh Purnima

Taking a bath in Ganga river, donations and religious activities are considered to be very important in Magh month. Every day of this month is considered to be auspicious. According to Shastras, taking a bath in any river during this period is as auspicious as taking a bath in Ganga river. Taking a bath in Prayag is considered to be most auspicious in Magh month. Moreover, has made this priceless.

Fairs during Magh Purnima

Every year, a fair is organized in Prayag during Magh month. It is believed that residing in Prayag (Kalpvas) during this period is considered to be very auspicious. Devotees stay near Prayag till Maghi Purnima. A lot of devotees from all across India can be seen taking baths and performing religious activities during this period. Kalpvas extends upto the end of Magh month. On the day of Magh Purnima, devotees take a bath, make donations and perform yagnas etc. It is believed that Lord Vishnu blessed everyone who takes a bath in Ganga river on this day. Achla Bhanu Saptami 2024 – Rath Arogya Saptami 2024

Saptami on Shukla Paksha of Magh month is also known as Surya Saptami, Achla Saptami, Arogya Saptami etc. When this Saptami is on Sunday, it is known as Achla Bhanu Saptami. The importance of Saptami is even more on this day. On 16  February 2024, Saptami on Shukla Paksha of Magh month.

Achla Saptami – Mythological Basis

According to Shastras, Sun cures all kinds of diseases. It is believed that if a person worships Lord Sun, all kinds of diseases are cured. A lot of stories have been explained about Achla Bhanu Saptami in mythological scriptures. According to such a story, Lord Krishna’s son, Shamb, was filled with pride because of his physical strength. Shamb disrespected Saint Durvasa because of his pride. Saint Durvasa cursed Shamb to suffer from leprosy.

Lord Krishna asked Shamb to worship Lord Sun. Shamb worshipped Lord Sun and his illness was cured. Due to this, it is believed that a person worshipping Lord Sun on this day is cured of all kinds of diseases. Moreover, such a person is blessed with a son and wealth.

Achla Saptami – Sun’s Worship

Lord Sun is believed to cure all kinds of diseases. Devotees keep a fast on this day and worship Lord Sun. There is nothing in this world without Sun’s light. On this day, a person worshipping Lord Sun is cured of all kinds of diseases. Presently, Sun’s worship is associated with Ayurvedic remedies.

Lord Sun’s worship is believed to cure diseases related to physical weakness, joint pains and weak bones. A person should face the Sun and offer prayers to get some relief from skin diseases. This fast is also considered to be important if you want to be blessed with a son. This fast maintain a good relationship between father and son.

Bhanu Saptami Worship

On this day, a person should take a bath in a river, lake etc. before sunrise. After taking a bath, a person should worship Lord Sun. Lord Sun should be worshipped while standing near a pond, lake or river. Lamps should be donated on this day. A person should also donate camphor, dhoop, red flowers etc. A person should make donations to Brahmanas and poor people.

According to another notion, a person should take a bath in flowing water before sunrise. A person should take a bath while keeping seven Badar or Ark leaves on the head. After taking a bath, a person should mix seven types of fruits, rice, durva, sandalwood etc. in water and offer it to Lord Sun. A person should also chant ‘Om Ghrani Suryaya Namah’ or ‘Om Suryaya Namah’. Reading Aditya Hridiya Stotra is also considered to be auspicious.

Ganesha Til Chaturthi Festival 2024

In the year 2024, Ganesha Til Chaturthi will be celebrated on 14th January. According to the Hindu Calender, the fast of Ganesha Chaturthi is observed on the Chaturthi of Magh Shukla Paksha every year. Donating sesame seeds is considered auspicious on this day. Lord Ganesha is offered Ladoos made of Til. Ganesha supreme among all deities. He is called Vighan Harta, the one who removes all sorts of obstacles. People of worship lord Ganesha regularly, they have happiness and wealth in their homes.

Rituals to Observe Ganesha Til Chaturthi Fast

Person observing fast should wake up early in the morning and complete his routine works like bath etc. Then, sit on a pew and worship lord Ganesha with incense sticks, lamps etc. After performing Puja with flower, fruit, Akshat, Roli, Moli, Panchamrit, lord is offered items made of Til or Ladoos of Til.

Person observing this fast should wear red color clothes. While performing Puja, a person should sit facing towards the East or North direction. During the worship, person should chant the mantra  “Om Ganeshaya Namah:” for 108 times along with the Gayatri Mantra-

In the evening, Aarti of lord Ganesha is performed after hearing the story. It gives a mental peace and bring happiness in home.

Donations for Ganesha Til Chaturthi

People whether observing fast or not, give donation to poor people according to their potency. On this day, warm clothes, blankets etc. are donated to poor people.  Lord Ganesha is offered Ladoos made of jaggery and Til, and Prasaad is then distributed among the poor. They are also given other food items apart from ladoos.

It is believed that the person who observes the fast and donate sesame to poor people gets all wishes fulfilled. Fast observed on Chaturdashi of Magh Shukla Paksha, is called Ganesha Til Chaturthi. According to ancient scriptures, Gauri tritiya fast is observed to get the blessing of Goddess Parvati. Gauri tritiya fast will be observed on 12 February 2024. On this day, the person observing the fast should wake up early in the morning, take bath and worship the whole family of Lord Shiva. Magh Mauni Amavasya 2024

In the year 2024 Mauni Amavasya will be celebrated on 09 February 2024. On this day, Sun and Moon enter into Capricorn sign because of the transit. This day is also celebrated as the birthday of Manu Rishi. Hence, this day is known as Mauni Amavasya. The significance of this amavasya increases when the yoga for Capricorn, Sun and Moon is formed. Taking bath in holy rivers on this day is believed to give fruitful results.

 

Significance of Maun Fast on Mauni Amavasya

According to some scholar, Maun Vrat should be observed on this day. Maun (silent) Vrat means to control all our senses. People take the resolution of Maun Vrat for a day, or a month, or for one year. It depends on a person for how long he wants to observe silence.

 

Taking bath in holy rivers, along with fasting is considered very auspicious. Hence, a person should observe Maun Vrat and then have a bath. After completing the bath etc. A person observing Maun fast should go to a peaceful place and perform mediation. This purifies the mind of an individual. The soul gets connected with the Lord. Significance of Mauni Amavasya

On the day of Mauni Amavasya, a person should person mediation and donate things as per his capacity. Those who are not able to take bath in holy rivers or any other pilgrim, should wake up early in the morning, complete his routine work and have a bath at home itself. He can even take bath in a nearby river. As per the scriptures, the water of rivers become as pure as Ganga Jal on this day. Silence should be observed while bathing and meditation.

On this day a person should avoid performing  wrong works and try to make his mind strong. He should focus on activities that can help him to keep his mind peaceful and make the body strong.

After this, person should worship Brahma Dev and perform the Gayatri Japa. Donations should be done with faith and chanting of mantra. The donations include giving of cow, gold, clothes, bed and other useful things.

Magh Snan 2023 : Magha Snana Importance

It is believed that Trideva reside in Sangam’s Yamuna or Prayagraj. Hence, taking a bath in Prayag, Allahabad during Magh month holds immense importance. It is believed to provide auspicious results equivalent to ten thousand Ashwamedh yagya. In Magh month, taking a bath in Ganga or other holy rivers during Brahma Muhurta is considered to be very auspicious. Magh Snan begins on the day of Paush Shukla Ekadashi or Purnima and ends on the day of Magh Shukla Dwadashi or Purnima. When Sun is in Capricorn sign during Magh month, a person should keep fasts and make donations, charities etc. Taking a bath in Ganga or Yamuna at Sangam is considered to be most auspicious.

 

Magh Snan and Kalpvas

On the day of Magh Snan, Sun and Moon transit into Capricorn sign. Capricorn, Sun and Moon form a special Yoga on this day. It is believed that taking a bath at Sangam in Haridwar, Nasik, Ujjain and Allahabad is considered to be very auspicious. Kalpvas is considered to be very important in Magh month. Residing near Sangam during Magh month is known as Kalpvas.


Vedas, Mantras, Yagyas etc. are known as Kalpa. According to mythological scriptures, residing near Sangam during Magh month is known as Kalpvas. Kalpvas begins from Paush Shukla Ekadashi and ends on Magh Shukla Dwadashi. Patience, peace and devotion are the foundation of Kalpvas.

 

Magh Snan Fair

A lot of fairs are organized during Magh Snan in Magh month. Fairs are organized in many holy places including Prayag, Uttarkashi, Haridwar etc. It is believed that due to the auspicious results of Magh Snan, Pratishthan Puri’s King, Naresh got rid of his ugliness. It is also believed that Lord Indra was cursed by Saint Gautam. He was freed from his curse due to the auspicious results of Magh Snan.


Magh Snan fair is a very important fair from mythological point of view. This fair is organized on the day of Makar Sankranti. This occasion is celebrated with a lot of zeal and excitement in holy places all around India. A lot of religious and traditional activities are organized in this fair.


Taking a bath in Sangam eliminates all kinds of sins. A person should take a vow of silence while taking a bath on this day. This is because Magh Snan is also considered auspicious for controlling your voice. After taking a bath, a person should organize havans, donations, charities etc. Taking a bath in Triveni during Magh Snan provides auspicious results equivalent to one thousand Rajasuya Yagya. Magh month’s Purnima as well as Amavasya are considered to be very important. Both of these dates are celebrated like special occasions.


A person should make donations, charities etc. during this period. If a person is unable to visit Triveni’s Sangam, he should follow all the principles at a river near his home. Sankashti Chaturthi 2024 : Date Muhurat Puja Vidhi

Lord Ganesha is worshipped on the day of Ganesha Chaturthi. Worshipping Lord Ganesha on this day eliminates all kinds of problems in a person’s life.

Putrada Ekadashi Fast 2024 – Putrada Ekadasi Vrat Katha

In the year 2024, Putrada Ekadashi fast will be observed on 21 January. According to the Hindu calendar, Putrada Ekadashi fast is observed every year on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha, Paush month. Lord Narayana is worshiped on this day. After taking bath early in the morning and completing daily work, clean clothes are worn and Lord Hari is worshiped.

Putrada Ekadashi Fast Pujan

The idol of Lord Narayana is bathed with Panchamrit and worshiped with incense stick and small lamp(deepak). After this, a person, as per his capacity, offers flowers, fruits, coconut, betel leaf, betel nut, clove, berries, Amla etc. to the Lord. After observing fast for the whole day, Katha is heard in the evening and fruits are eaten. Gifting lamps(deep) on this day is considered auspicious

Putrada Ekadashi Fast Katha

In the ancient time, Sukentumaan was the king of Bhadravati Puri. Even after many years of marriage, they did not had any child. Both king and his queen were tensed and lived in depression. King was tensed thinking, “who will give fire and cremate his body after his death?”. Father of the king was also worried about the predecessor and the Tarpan and Pind Daan after his death.

Once, in this depression king went to the jungle on his horse. He moved to the dense forest and started hearing voices of different animals. While moving in the forest, the king felt thirsty. In search of water he moved deep inside the forest where he saw a lake. Near the water body he saw the Ashram of Sages. Here some Munis were studying Vedas. King came down from his horse and drank water from the lake. His left eye started fluttering. King thought of this as an indication of something good. King bowed to each Rishi one after the other. The Sages were pleased by the king and blessed him. Then, the king asked their reason for gathering. Rishis replied, “we are Vishva Deva and we came near the lake to have a bath. After five days the Magh month bath will start.Today is Putrada Ekadashi and people who will observe this fast will conceive a child.”

Listening this, king Sukentumaan asked the Vishva Devas to bestow him with the blessing of having a son. Muni said “today is Putrada Ekadashi. Observe this fast and worship Lord Narayana”. As told by Rishi, King observed the vrata and performed all the rituals in a proper manner. After conclusion of the vrata the king gave salutation to all the Rishis and went back to his kingdom. After sometimes queen became pregnant and gave birth to a tender bodied son. Later on he became a great warrior and a good ruler.

Significance of Putrada Ekadashi Fast

The fruits of those fast are similar to that of its name. Those who face obstacles in having a child are blessed with a son. A person who hears and follows the greatness of this fast gets all his desires fulfilled and attains salvation after his death.
