It is well known to the students of Astronomy that the first point of Aries is not a fixed point; but has a backward motion of about 50".2 per annum. This is called the Precession of the equinoxes. The Indian Astrologers do not measure the longitudes from the first point of Aries, but from a fixed point called Meshadi. But what exactly is this point? What is the distance at present from the first point of Aries? Different schools give different values for this distance, technically called Ayanamsa of his liking and the resulting muddle forms the subject matter of this book. The author introduces the basic concepts of Astronomy to prepare the reader to understand the concept of the precession of the Equinoxes. Then he gradually drives home the concept of Ayanamsa, clearly highlighting the repercussions of the divergence of the different schools. He concludes that the value of Ayanamsa has be settled with astronomical and astrological methods.
