Insanity as Represented by the Head Line
The shape or placement of the line of head also determines whether the person is normal or abnormal. The line of head when sinks to an abnormal point on the Mount of Luna, represents that the imagination of the subject is abnormal or unnatural. When the line of head reaches this abnormal point in the hand of a child, the child may grow up into a perfectly sane person but he may lose his mental equilibrium due to a mental shock and it may result in insanity.
The same placement of the line of head with an unusually high Mount of Saturn depicts a malignant imagination from the beginning. Such a person is somber, sullen and melancholy. This tendency increases unreasonably until the person loses his or her entire mental equilibrium.
A small island in the centre of the sloping line of head shows temporary insanity. The island on this line indicate a temporary aberration related to brain or nervous system. A congenital mental disorder is depicted by an under-developed thumb and a sloping line of head made up of broad lines and islands like chains filled in it.
Various Types of Insanity
As there are many kinds of manias, so are there various indications given by a hand. The chief types of manias are provided below.
- Material madness like chauvinism, religious madness or hallucinations etc.
- Evolved madness
- Inherited madness
Material Madness
In this case, the line of head inclines downward with a sharp low curve to the Mount of Luna. It denotes the abnormally imaginative temperament of the subject. This kind of person has a strong imaginative power and hence is inclined towards the objects of extraordinary imaginations or hallucinations since his childhood days which if given a proper chance might work to its extreme and the person might feel relieved. But if it is opposed, it feeds on itself and thus increases.
Evolved Madness
This kind of mania is found in two types of hands - the spatulate and the philosophic. In the first type of hand, the line of head is extremely sloping on an extremely spatulate formation. In the beginning, it can be seen in the form of a defying action. If the person has to work on his thoughts alone, the weakening of the nerves takes place by confinement. The intensity of the thoughts, the excitement with which he labours and the laboratory where he works turns him mad.
This kind of madness in a philosophical hand is represented by a sharp curve of the Line of head on the Mount of Luna. In this case, the person leans towards an unusual line of thought and becomes unbalanced due to failure in executing his thoughts.
Inherited Madness
This kind of madness results due to malformation of brain. It can be divided in two different types - a hopeless madman and a vicious lunatic.
The first kind is characterised by a wide and a sloping line of head with a small hair-lines. It is entirely made up of small islands. It shows that the person is born with an underdeveloped mind which is not sufficient to govern or control mind. Hence, this kind of person becomes a hopeless madman.
The second kind of madness is represented by a continuous line of head. It is made up of short and wavy branches running in all directions. The person in this case behaves according to the condition. He behaves normally in all the conditions but may become quarrelsome and vicious in some specific conditions. He never learns from his mistakes and will show similar reactions in those conditions.
