Goddess Matangi is the ninth form of Dasha Mahavidyas (Ten Wisdom Goddesses). She is known as the goddess of voice and music. She possesses a combined power of the entire universe. Goddess Matangi Story
Goddess Matangi gives relief from all troubles of life. The mantra to worship her is, “ Kreem Hreem Matangi Hreem Kreem Swaha”. A person who chants this mantra becomes fearless and is blessed with all kinds of pleasures of life.
A person who is not able to receive love of his mother, or his mother is going through any kind of sufferings should chant Goddess Matangi Mantra. It is also beneficial for those suffering from any kind of natural calamity like flood or famine.
Goddess Matangi is an other form of Lord Shiva. She wears a white crescent Moon on her forehead. Her arms are spread in all the four directions, thus known as Vagdevi. She is also considered to be a primal form of Goddess Saraswati. A person who worships her with flowers and bel leaves possesses a sense of attraction.
Goddess Matangi is also known as Ucchishta-Chandalini or Ucchishta-Matangini. In South India, she is worshipped in the form of Ucchistha Matangi, Raj Matangi, Sumukhi, Vaishya Matangi, Karan Matangi etc. According to Brahmayala, Saint Matangi with his hard penance was blessed with Goddess Matangi in the form of a daughter. It is also said that when Saint Matang was performing penance in the forest, Goddess Matangi appeared in the form of Raj Matangi from the radiance of Trupurasura to suppress destructive powers.
Appearance of Goddess Matangi
Goddess Matangi was born to destroy the evil powers. She wears red coloured clothes riding on a Lion. She seems heroic with her appearnce. She wears red shoe and holds red coloured beads. Goddess Matangi can be seen holding a bow, shellfish, line, row, canopy, trident, akshamala, power etc in her hands in various forms.
Significance of Matangi Jayanti
On Matangi Jayanti, Goddess Matangi is worshipped in the temples. Small girls are also worshipped and offered food in the form of prasad. Jagaran and Kirtans are also performed in various places. Devotees participate in the puja with full dedication and enthusiasm.
