Festivals in the Month of Ashada : Ashada Sankranti 2023, 15th June

sankranti 15 june 2023 On Ashadh Sankranti, the Sun will enter Gemini. Ashadh Sankranti will begin on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 18:16. The auspicious time of bathing and donating this Sankranti will start after 11:52 am.


During Sankranti period it is beneficial to do charity work.


Ashadh Month Special

Donations should be given as per the capability during Sankranti, Poornima and the Eclipse. The person unable to visit any holy place should take bath at home and perform donation works. Maintaining celibacy and worshipping Lord Laxmi Narayan daily during Ashadh month pleases Lord Vishnu and yields auspicious results.


Moreover, all the names of Lord Vishnu should also be recited. On Ekadashi, Amavasya and Poornima; the person should eat once then the Brahmans should be fed and umbrella, sandals, Emblica, Mango, Honeydew Melon, other fruits, clothes etc.,should be donated to them. Performing all these works ritually yeild good results.


Shri Ganesh Chaturthi Fast: 07th June 2023

SShri Ganesh Chaturthi Fast is observed on chaturthi(fourth) date of every month. In Ashadh month, this fast is on 07th June. In the evening, Ganesh Chaturthi fast is ended after viewing the Moon. On this day the moon will rise is according to the area time. On the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, the eyes are kept low while offering the Ardhya and should also avoid the view of Moon on this day.


In Shri Ganesh Chaturthi fast, Lord Ganesh is worshipped. In this worship, Durwa is especially used as there is a beleif that it pleases Lord Ganesh immediately.


There is a popular belief that once the angels were trying to please Ganesh for marriage but when he did not agreed, they cursed him of suffering from headache. To avoid this curse, Lord Ganesh weared Durwa on his head. Since that time the tradition of offering Durwa started.


Panchak Period of Ashadh Month

In 2023, Panchak will start on 09th June and will end on 13 June. All auspicious works should be avoided during this period. The time is also not considered good to start any new business. In addition, doing 5 works are prohibited. There is a belief that whatever work is done, you may have to do it five times. To avoid this repition any work should not be done during the Panchak.


Yogini Ekadashi Fast: 14th June 2023

In 2023, Yogini Ekadashi fast will be observed on 14th July. The day due to which, this Ekadashi is more auspicious as compared to the other Ekadashis. On Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu is worshipped and fast is observed. In the night, jagaran is performed and Vishnu and Shiv stotra is chanted. There is a belief that observing fast and chanting the stotras relieves the person from skin diseases.


Pradosh Fast: 01st June or 01st July 2023

The fast of Trayodashi date is called Pradosh Fast. There is a belief that in Pradosh period, Lord Bholenath dances in a happy mood on Kailash Parwat. This dance starts after sunset and remains till night begins. This period of dance is called Pradosh Kaal (Period).


In 2023, this fast is on 01st June or 01st July June. In this fast, worshipping Lord Shiv along with Hanuman and chanting the Hanuman Chalisa is considered of great importance.


Ashadhi Amavasya: 18th June 2023

Amavasya of Ashadh month is on 18th June. Bathing, worshipping and donating at holy places is considered good on the day of Amavasya. Moreover, works to pacify the souls of the ancestors are also performed on this day.


Rath Yatra: 20 June 2023

TThe Rath processsion of Shri Jagannath is taken out with full zeal on the second day of Pushya Nakshatra, Ashadh Shukla Paksha. This rath procession is also called Poori Rath Yatra. The procession is taken out in Orissa and is carried on for nine days from Jagannath temple to Gundipa temple. In the procession, the idol of Lord Jagganath, Dev Balbhadra and her sister Subhadra are kept.


Harishayani Ekadashi Fast: 29th June 2023

Harishayani Ekadashi is also called Devshayani Ekadashi. According to a belief, from this day onwards, Lord Vishnu resides in Patal Lok for four months and awakes on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi of Kartik month. During this period of four months, marriages etc. should not be done.


It is believed that those who marry during the four months of Harishayani Ekadashi do not get the blessings of Lord Vishnu. The Ekadashi fast is observed to please Lord Vishnu. The devotees of Lord Vishnu should inevitably observe this fast.
