According to Vedic astrology, there are 27 Nakshatras. Some Nakshatras out of these are very compassionate and are known as Gandmool Nakshatra. Each Nakshatra has its own basic nature. Some are auspicious while others are inauspicious. Six out of these Nakshatras are formed at the conjunction of two astrological signs. These Nakshatra belong to either Ketu or Mercury. When Ketu’s one Nakshatra ends and Mercury’s one Nakshatra begins, it is known as a Gandmool Nakshatra.
Many scriptures like Skanda Purana, Narad Purana etc. talk about Gandmool Nakshatras. The last 48 minutes of Rewati Nakshatra and the first 48 minutes of Ashwini Nakshatra are known as Gandmool Nakshatra. Magha, Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Mool Nakshatra are also counted as Gandmool Nakshatra. One stage between Jyeshtha and Mool Nakshatra gives extremely inauspicious results.

Gandmool Nakshatra description
According to Vedic astrology, there are some Nakshatras whose areas are sensitive. These are known as Gandmool Nakshatra. Gandmool Nakshatra are formed at the conjunction of two Nakshatras and two signs. The time of this conjunction is believed to be very important. For example, the time of dawn is known as Brahma Muhurat and the time of dusk is known as Godhuli. It is believed that god should be worshipped during these times. Religious activities should also be carried out. The time of this conjunction is auspicious as well as inauspicious. It is said that no auspicious work should be carried out during these times.
According to Indian Vedic astrology, there are six Gandmool Nakshatra. These six nakshatras have been divided into two categories. One belongs to Ketu while the other belongs to Mercury. The first category which belongs to Ketu which comprises of Ashwini, Magha and Mool nakshatra. It is believed that a child born in the first category of Gandmool nakshatra should not face his father for 27 days till a Shanti puja is performed to calm down Gandmool Nakshatra. This Shanti puja is performed when Moon comes back to the same nakshatra after 27 days.
The second category which belongs to Mercury comprises of Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Rewati Nakshatra. Some scholars believe that a Shanti puja for the second category of Gandmool Nakshatra can be performed on the 10th or 19th day from the child’s birth. But, this is just an exception.
