Swami Vivekananda- A Horoscopic View | Swami Vivekananda- A Great Thinker

Swami Vivekananda was born in an affluent family in Kolkata on 12 January 1863. His father,Vishwanath Datta, was a successful attorney with interests in a wide range of subjects, and his mother, Bhuvaneshwari Devi, was endowed with deep devotion, strong character and other qualities. He was known in his pre- monastic life as Narendra Nath Datta. Narendra Nath excelled in music, gymnastics and studies. He graduated from Calcutta University and acquired a vast knowledge of different subjects, especially Western philosophy and history. Born with a Yogic temperament, he used to practise meditation from his boyhood.

Swami Vivekananda - a great thinker, was a true patriot who restored India to her former glory. .

The horoscopic details of Swami Vivekananda are: Lagna was Sagittarius with Lagna and lord Jupiter placed in the 11th house in Scorpio. The Sun was placed in the 2nd house, Capricorn sign was present with Mercury and Venus and Mars were placed in the 5th house in its own sign Aries. The spiritual combo of Moon and Saturn was placed in the 10th house in Virgo. Rahu was placed in the 12th house and Ketu was placed in the 6th house.

The main features of the horoscope were  the Vargottam Lagna and the Vargottam Sun, as both were placed in the same house in Navamasha Kundali. Also, the powerful aspect of Mars over the lord of Lagna indicate his aesthetic form, his inclination towards corpulence and his tall stature. The placement of Mars in the 4th house provided him a broad chest and a heavy built. Placement of Venus in the 2nd house gave Swamiji his magnificient eyes. He was born orator and his deep and mellifluous voice was due to the  placement of Jupiter from Chandra Lagna.

For a student of astrology,  Swamiji’s horoscope was interesting as it had Parivraja Yoga. The end of Sagittarius rising the same being owned by the benefic planet and Jupiter occupying the Kendra Bhava were a strong indication of final emancipation. Another ascetic combination was the Moon with Saturn in the 9th house. Also, the placement of Rahu in the 12th house and Jupiter and Lagnesh in an auspicious house made him a successful ascetic. The Mercury-Venus combination and Moon-Saturn combination suggest more intellectual and rational approach towards the problems of philosophy.

Ketu’s Bhukti was remarkable for Swami Vivekananda because it was during this sub period that Swamiji went to Amarnath. It is because of the placement of Ketu in 9th house from the Chandra Lagna. In the bhukti of Venus he made his 2nd trip to Europe and America. The last and the most tragic event was the ultimate death in the prime of life on 4-7-1902 in the sub period of the Sun in the Dasha of Jupiter. Jupiter became the maraka because it owned 7th house from Chandra Lagna occupied 2nd house. Also, Jupiter was in Papakartari Yoga. Although acccording to medical opinion death was due to heart failure but the end of life was peaceful because the 8th house was free from affliction.

Summing up Swami Vivekananda’s horoscope, we find him as a great thinker with a great speculative boldness and had a deep desire to make the world enjoy the bliss of the spirit. He was very logical and easy to be understood by an ordinary man.
