Rahu in Vedic Astrology

In this webcast, we will talk about importance of Rahu in vedic astrology. We will also talk about issues related to Rahu and remedies for weak Rahu.

Importance of Rahu in Vedic astrology and other facts related to it

The stories of Rahu are found in various Puranas and other scriptures. The references of Rahu are found in Brahma Purana, Vishnu Purana, Matsya Purana, Rigveda, Maha Bhagvat and Maha Bharat. According to an ancient legend, Maharishi Kashyap’s wife, Sinhika once expressed an unexpected desire to have a child. Saint Kashyap was furious at this and cursed her with a child that looked like the lord of death.

Rahu fought Aditi’s son and his step brother Sun after he took birth and was defeated. Rahu then performed a tough penance for ten thousand years to lord Brahma in the Himalayas. Lord Brahma was impressed by Rahu’s dedication. He wanted to bless Rahu with a boon. Rahu asked lord Brahma to create a planet which would win life, mortality and the Devas. He also wished that the planet would absorb both Sun and Moon. Rahu was excited after getting the boon from lord Brahma and headed towards Sun remembering the insult he had faced earlier. Lord Vishnu intervened and sliced Rahu’s head with his Chakra.

Rahu is known by many different names like Agu, Tam, Swarfanu, Abhi, Krishnang, Kapilas, Deergh, Asur, Guha, Sarp, Kani, Aagav.

Karakatavas of Rahu

According to Vedic astrology, Rahu is the Karak planet of Hessonite. Rahu is also the Karak planet for lead, Urad Dal, blue clothes and smoke-coloured objects. Rahu is also the Karak planet of legislative assembly, Lok Sabha, politics and diplomatic decisions. Rahu is considered to be an aggressive planet and it disrupts intelligence.

The placement of Rahu in Janma Kundali will decide whether it would give auspicious or inauspicious results with the things related to it. Rahu provides auspicious results if it is well-placed or is present in an auspicious house in your Kundali.

If Rahu is present in an auspicious house in your Kundali and is also strong, you may get a job with the help of a politician. This is because Rahu is also the Karak planet of politics and diplomacy. Other things related to Rahu are also analyzed in the same way. Rahu is also considered to be the lord of Nairutya direction.

Impact of Rahu in a Janma Kundali

Like other planets, Rahu is analyzed differently in different signs. Rahu gives different results in its own sign (Swarashi), Mooltrikon sign, exalted sign or debilitated sign. Rahu is considered to be in its Swarashi if it is in Virgo sign. Also, it is considered to be in its Mooltrikon sign if it is in Cancer sign.

Rahu will be exalted if it is in Taurus sign and it is strongest in this position. Rahu is also considered exalted in Gemini sign.

Rahu is considered debilitated in Scorpio sign. It is also considered debilitated when it is in Sagittarius sign. This condition of Rahu is exactly opposite to the exalted state of Rahu. A debilitated Rahu increases a person’s inclination towards wrong kind of activities.

Relationship of Rahu with other planets

Mercury, Venus and Saturn are considered natural or Naisargik friends of Rahu. Mars and Jupiter are neutral towards Rahu. Sun and Moon are considered enemies of Rahu.

Besides natural friendship or Naisargik Maitri, planets also have immediate friendship between them which is known as Tatkaalik Maitri. It depends on the position of planets in a Kundali. Rahu will be friendly to the planets which are present three houses ahead and three houses back from its placement in the Kundali.

Beyond the naisargik and the tatkalik relationship, there’s also the panchadha maitri or the panchadha relationship of the planets. The panchadha relationship is calculated by combining the effects of the naisargik and the tatkalik relationships. This is then the final word on the mutual relationship of the planets for a Janma kundali. For example, let’s assume that Sun is the tatkalik friend of Rahu in a kundali, but it’s also the naisargik enemy. The two effects neutralize each other, and Sun becomes neutral towards Rahu in the Janma kundali.

Auspicious and Inauspicious results of a transiting Rahu

In Vedic astrology, transits are analyzed by considering Moon to be the ascendant. If a transiting Rahu is present in the 3rd house, it will mostly provide auspicious results and some inauspicious results. These may include acquiring a prominent position, gaining respect, happiness due to increased wealth, pride and separation from brothers. If transiting Rahu is in the 6th house, it would cure diseases and will provide you peace of mind and success in competition.

You will achieve success if a transiting Rahu is present in 10th house. You may also get benefits from the government or get a government job.

In the 11th house, Rahu’s transit will cure diseases, and bring you benefits.

Let us now discuss the inauspicious results of Rahu’s transits. It may provide inauspicious results if it is in 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th or 12th house from the ascendant. If Rahu transits through the 1st house, you may feel irritated and tired. It may also result in an unexpected and a useless journey.

There may be troubles related to eyes, tensions in the family and loss of wealth if Rahu’s transit is through the 2nd house. The 4th house transit may bring you stress. You may feel restless and helpless when Rahu transits through the 5th house.

In the 7th house, you may fall ill or get disrespect. If a transiting Rahu is in 8th house, you may face threats and other troubles from the government. A person may be separated from his relatives if Rahu transits through the 9th house. Transit through the 12th house will increase the tensions with friends and the expenditure.
