The Magician - Meaning of The Magician in Tarot Cards

The Magician card is also known as The Magus. Mercury predominates with The Magus or The Magician. In many cases, The Magician usually is said to be bisexual, ambidextrous, flirty, exasperating. The Magician card can also be related to communication. He can even adjust with the ambiance of the situation. The Magus takes on the energies of the cards around him, and broadcasts that energy to all and sundry. The Magician can be seen as the deal maker. He wangles things and he usually tricks people. The Magician can also be related to manipulation as he says one thing and means another.

The Magician is always restless and can be seen circling around the Sun. He brings down knowledge, communications and diktats from on High. But, the major problem is that you can’t be sure if the Magician is reliable or not. One can never know if the Magician is being truthful or not. The Magician loves gossip and news. Not because he thinks of them to be interesting. But, because of the fact that he never knows when they might come in handy. In conjunction with the Death or Moon card, he represents the intelligence gathering of the Secret Services, but since they are unaccountable, it is impossible to know the veracity of what they have gleaned.

The Magician is the appropriate card if you want to pass on some message. When The Magus is weak, expect communication problems, crossed lines, an inability to speak, or torrents of words spewing out that make no sense. This card is also known as The Magus of power. The image that can be seen on the card is that of a fair youth with winged helmet and heels. He is equipped as a magician who is displaying his work. The Magician can be related to skill, wisdom, adaptation, craft, cunning etc. The Magician is always depending on it’s dignity. Sometimes, it also depends on occult wisdom.

The Magician represents the union and balance of the elemental powers controlled by mind. The Adept dedicating the minor implements on the Altar. The paths of Beth and Mercury link Kether the Crown with Binah, the Aimah Elohim. The Magician, therefore, is reflected in the intellect which stores and gathers up knowledge and pours it into the House of Life. The colours yellow, violet, grey and indigo, point to the mysterious astral light surrounding the greater Adept. The Magician  is familiar to most as a conventional symbol of eternity, but here it indicates more especially the eternity of attainment in the spirit.

The Magician can be seen with a wand in the right hand which can be seen raised towards the heaven. The left hand can be seen pointed towards the Earth. This dual sign is known in very high grades of the instituted mysteries as it shews the descent of grace, virtue and light, drawn from things above and derived to things below. The suggestion throughout is therefore the possession and communication of the Powers and Gifts of the Spirit.
