Ancient scriptures such as Jabala Upanishad, Shivapurana, Kalika Purana, Linga Purana, Kaal Samhita, Nirnaya Sindhu etc. have mentioned the significance of Rudraksha in detail. The details consist of the colour, texture and fruit given by different kinds of Rudraksha. The methods and rituals to wear Rudraksha have also been mentioned in detail in these scriptures. The results achieved by just chanting the name of “Rudraksha” are equivalent to donating 10 cows.

Rudraksha destroys the sins of a person. Just a sight of it can ward off the sufferings and pains from life. Wearing Rudraksha while chanting its respective mantra multiplies the results to be  attained from it. It is very beneficial to worship Lord Shiva with mantras while holding Rudraksha.

Rituals and method to wear Rudraksha

It is very important to wear Rudraksha after performing some rituals. A person should undergo some kind of wise and purifying process to be suitable to wear Rudraksha. It is specifically worn on the Mondays of Shukla Paksha .

Dip Rudraksha in a bowl containing Mustard oil for 5 to 7 days. After that, bathe it with pure things like water of holy river Ganga or milk, followed by pouring Panchamrit over it. Chant Om Namaha Shivaya while performing the above purification process. Offer sandalwood, Bel leaves, red flowers, dhoop, lamp while performing the puja.

Touch the Rudraksha with Shivalinga and apply the ashes of Hawan (vibhooti) on it while chanting, “ Om Tatpurushaya Vidmahe Mahadevaya Dheemahi Tanno Rudra Prachodayat “.

Face East or North while wearing it and chant the above given mantras.  If you are unable to chant respective Rudraksha mantras, then follow the simple procedure of worshipping it. Wear a single Rudraksha or make a Rudraksha mala in a pure red thread before wearing it.

Auspicious time to wear Rudraksha

Wearing Rudrakha on the day of Purnima is considered to be auspicious and destroys all the sins. It can also be worn on Sankranti or Amawasya. The form of Rudraksha represents various forms of God. Its base is Lord Brahma, naval is Lord Vishnu, face is Lord Shiva and the lines on it represents other gods and goddesses.

Precautions

A pure body can attain the benefits of Rudraksha. It makes the heart and thoughts pure. So the person who wears it should avoid consumption of meat, alcohol, onion, garlic etc.
