Rising and Setting of Planets
The setting of planets is of two kinds. Planets rise and set every day. Apart from this, the planet is also known as set (combust) when it is close to Sun.
Time of Rising of Planets
Planets having speed less than Sun like Mars, Jupiter and Saturn when are in Kaalansha from Sun, then they rise in eastern direction and at the time when night is about to finish. The planet which has more speed than Sun is Moon. Since, it has more Kaalansha than Sun, it rises in west in the evening. The remarkable thing about Mercury and Venus is that both the planets are extremely close to Sun and hence these rise and set in both eastern and western direction. Both these planets set and rise by attaining the retrograde state after coming in the Kaalansha of Sun. It means that both the planets having speed more than Sun when are in their Kaalansha and are ahead of Sun rise in evening in western direction and when are close to Sun set in western direction.
To understand the rising and setting time of planets, we have to first understand the Kaalansha of a planet. It is also known as the degree of setting of planets. When a planet is positioned at a particular degree from Sun, then it is known as set (combust).
The Kaalansh of the planets for being set (combust):
Planet Moon Mars Mercury Jupiter Venus Saturn
Distance from Sun 12 17 13 11 09 15
The rising and setting of slow moving planets:
Planets having less speed than Sun like Mars, Jupiter and Saturn set in western direction when are in their Kaalansh from Sun. Planet having more speed than Sun like Moon set in eastern direction when they come close to Sun in their Kaalansha. The Kaalansha of retrograde Sun and Venus is taken 1 degrees less than the original state. For eg: the Kaalansha of Mercury is 12 degrees then the Kaalansha in its retrograde state will be 11 degrees.
