Calculation of Sidereal Time

The term ‘Sidereal Time’ originates from the rotation of the earth on its axis. ‘Sidereal Time’ can be understood as the angle formed between the distance of a place from the Meridian Circle and the westward distance of the place from Vernal Equinox point. The value of this angle is expressed in hours and minutes. The determination of time in this method is done by 24 hours clock system.

In simple words, the period from mid-night or from noon till the desired time is known as ‘Sidereal Time or Sampatic Isht Kal. This is an age-old system and is also used currently.
