Relationship of Seasons and Astrology

The changes in seasons are considered when we talk about learning astrology. We will see in this article how the duration of a day changes.

Vasant Sampat Bindu (Vernal equinox)

The Sun exactly rises from east on 21st March. Post this it starts going to the northern hemisphere. This is known as Basant Sampat. This is because it happens in the Basant (spring) season in the presence of Sayan-Mesh combination. The sun in this period rises exactly from the east and day-night are of equal durations. This means that the sun rise at exactly 6 AM in the morning. Nadivrat and Krantivrat intersect each other. The intersecting point is used to calculate bhogansh and vishupansh. This point is also known as Sayan-Aries bindu or Uttari Sampat bindu.

Sharad Sampat Bindu (Autumnal equinox)

This is second intersecting point of Nadivrat and Krantivrat. Around 21st September, the sun travels the northern hemisphere and reaches a point which is known as Sayan -Libra. This takes about six months. The sun returns to Vishuvat and rises from the east. The duration of day and night are equal. Then, the sun travels in the southern hemisphere and this journey is also known as Dakshin Sampat. Sharad (Autumn) seasons starts. The Sun stays from Sayan-Aries to Sayan-Libra in the northern hemisphere and from Sayan-Libra to Sayan-Aries in the southern hemisphere.

Grsihma Krantibindu (Summer Solstice)

The Sun is near the Grishma Krantibindu around 21st June. The Sun travels to this point after travelling through the northern hemisphere from Sayan-Mesh. During this period, sun rays form on a triangle on the Cancer sign. During this time, the Sun is very far from the Vishuvat line and the duration of the days is longer than nights. This is known as Sayan-Cancer Sankraman. Post this, the Sun completes its journey in the northern hemisphere and reaches Sayan-Libra. This happens around 21st June. The sun travels to the southern hemisphere after reaching this point. This is the reason why Grishma Kranti is also known as Dakshinayan bindu.

Sharadkranti-Uttarayan Bindu (Winter Solstice)

This happens on the 21st December when the Sun is far from Vishuvat line in the southern hemisphere. This is the southern border of Krantivrat. Sun rays form a triangle when they fall on Capricorn line around 22nd December. During this time, Sayan is in Capricorn sign. Dakshinkranti of sun is between 23 and 28 degrees during this period. The sun rises at 25 degrees in the east on this day. The sun starts traveling north from this day. The night time is the longest on this day. This is the beginning of Uttarayan. This is the reason why this is also known as Uttarayan Bindu.
