Qualification of an Astrologer

People get curious to know about the skills of an astrologer. It is also very important to know whether a person can practice astrology or not. Although many people try but not everyone can master the vast science of astrology and make accurate predictions about the future.

All the astrology epics and religious epics have termed this as divine science. This divine science originated from the mouth of gods. This science was recited by sage Vyas and was written by lord Ganesh. It can be mastered by few fortunate people only.

Saint Parashara has mentioned the following skills of an astrolger in “Brihat Parashar” Hora Shastra in chapter 27 in Shloka 39 and Shloka 40.

गणितेषु प्रवीणो य: शब्द शास्त्रे कृ्त श्रम:
न्यायविद, बुद्धिमान देशदिक्कालज्ञो जितेन्द्रिय:

Meaning:

A person who wants to learn astrology should know mathematics. It is not important to know mathematics today in the era of computers, because kundalis are made on computers. But an astrologer should know how to make a kundali without using a computer. Also the person should know astrology for the calculation of degrees of planets, calculation of current Dasha and to determine the transit.

Along with this, the person should have ample patience. Composure and endurance are very important to listen to the troubles of people and satisfy them with advice. If a person is nearing towards an unfavourable situation, an astrologer should tell him in such a way that it doesn’t hurt him.

A person aspiring to learn astrology should be a good adjudicator. If the placement of some planets is not clear while analyzing Kundali, then the person should be capable of judging the results of planets on his own.

The person should be intellectual. He should be able to make predictions according to a person’s surroundings and time. An astrologer should respect the sentiments of the person coming to him and should not focus on money while making predictions. One should practice astrology only for charity, and should abstain from selfish motives.

An astrologer should tell a result in an explicit way. Situations that do not give a clear perspective  should be analyzed in more than one Dasha.
