Ashtak Varga and Transits
Planets are always moving from one place to another. Hence, their position in the universe is always changing. This movement of planets is known as transit. Ashtak Varga is one of the most important principles for analyzing transits of planets. In order to understand this knowledge, we need to study the speeds of planets. Every planet stays in a sign for a certain duration. Hence, we need to understand the duration for which a planet will stay in a sign.
Duration for transits of different planets are as follows :
Moon - 2 days and one quarter
Mars - 45 days
Mercury - 28 days
Jupiter - 1 year
Venus - 30 days
Saturn - 2 and a half years
Rahu-Ketu - 1 and a half years
Usually, transits are analyzed by studying a planet’s position from Moon. We need to analyze Saturn’s transit as it stays in a sign for the longest duration. We need to understand its effects after staying for so long in a sign. With the help of Ashtak Varga, we can easily understand all this.
As mentioned earlier, there are seven planets and the eighth is Ascendant. Auspicious and inauspicious points (Bindu) are obtained from all these planets. If the seven planets and ascendant give one auspicious point each, there will 8 auspicious points in a Kundali. If there are seven auspicious points, a person ill have 7 parts of auspicious results. On the basis of such results, auspiciousness in a person’s life is calculated. According to another opinion, if a planet in transit is in 3rd, 6th, 10th or 11th house from birth Moon or Ascendant, or if it is in a friendly sign, own sign or exalted, and there are four auspicious points, a person will have more auspicious results.
On the other hand, if the planet is transit in other houses from the birth Moon, a person may receive inauspicious results. If a planet is debilitated, malefic or weak, the person may receive more inauspicious results. The range for inauspicious or auspicious points in Bhinna Ashtak Varga range from 0 to 8. Planets with 4 points are considered to give mixed results. On the other hand, this range is between 0 to 56 in Sarva Ashtak Varga. A planet with 28 points is considered to give mixed results.
In addition to all this, transits need to be analyzed through Nakshatras. These are studied under nine stars. These nine stars are : Janma, Sampat, Vipat, Kshem, Pratyari, Sadhak, Vadh, Mitra and Atimitra. All the 27 Nakshatras are divided into three categories. Transit of planets in Kakshyas is also another way to study transits of planets. We also have to study temporary auspicious and inauspicious planets. We also need to understand that transits of planets also give results according to Yogas in a Kundali.
