Jagradadi Avasthas

Planets on account of their incessant movement get into certain state of existence called avasthas. Depending on their position in the chart and the other conditions, Indian astrology classifies the conditions of the planets into 5 different sets of avasthas. They are:
  • Baladi Avasthas - Set of 5 avasthas
  • Jagradadi Avasthas - Set of 3 avasthas
  • Lajjitadi Avasthas - Set of 6 avasthas
  • Deeptadi Avasthas - Set of 9 avasthas
  • Sayanadi Avasthas - Set of 12 avasthas
It is a very detailed and complicated study as to how a planet in each of the 5 types of sets of avasthas behaves. Based on that the results given by each planet for each type of the sets of avasthas is taken into consideration while giving predictions.

Jagradadi

This avastha is related to alertness. This avastha has mainly 3 subset that need to be understood before making and predictions.
  • Jagrata
  • Swapna
  • Susupta
Jagrata : In the the condition of the planet when it is in its own sign(rashi) or exaltation it indicates that the planet is in Jagrata Avatha and the result will be full. Swapna : In the the condition of the planet when it is in the friendly sign(rashi) or in its own sign it indicates that the planet is in Swapna Avatha and the result will be Medium. Jagrata : In the the condition of the planet when it is in enemy sign(rashi) or in debilitation it indicates that the planet is in Suspta  Avatha and the result will be Nill.

Baladi

The Drekkana division of the zodiac sign helps to determine the baladi avasthas. The three drekannas of a rasi are divided mainly into -
  • Child age
  • Middle age
  • Old age
Since baladi avasthas deal with the physical body, they are reckoned in the opposite order for even signs with the first drekkana showing old age. The baladi avasthas depend on the drekkana division. The shastamsa division (half of drekanna) can also be used. Here, there are 6 states from childhood to death. In order, Sun, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Moon and Saturn are strong in each of the 6 shastamsas. Mercury is strong everywhere.

Sayandi

This Avasthas deal with the state of the mind, which constantly propels between the state of rest and activity. for example,.We can observe the state of the mind. The energy of the body comes from the food we eats. Intake of food is done in rest and comforts, and this can happen at places such as: swakshetra (home), moola Trikona (work) or in exaltation (picnic/party). The intrinsic energies of a planet come from swakshetra sign. The energy from which the native  executes the work comes from his Moola Trikona sign. The energy from which he succeeds in all activities comes from the sate of exaltation. As we can intake food and energy only when our mind is at rest and comfort In the same way, the planets recharge only when they are stationary, and comfortable i.e in the own sign, in Mool Trikona and in exaltation sign.
