What is local time?
Sun is responsible for the occurrence of time, day, night and seasons. A Hindu day is considered from one sunrise to another sunrise. Sun when comes at the top of head, the time is known as local afternoon. Earth is not a flat plain, but it is a sphere which rotates on its axis towards east or anti-clockwise. Therefore, Sun appears in the countries of eastern direction first and then in the countries of western direction.
Local Mean Time
The local time of every place is different. But, the value of Local Meridian Time is taken to make the time uniform and to prevent heavy calculations. This time depends upon the latitude and longitude of that place. In Astrology, the time provided is first converted into Local Meridian Time. For instance, when the Janam Kundali is prepared by hand then Local Meridian Time is used.
Local Mean Time Correction
Local Mean Time correction is that period of time which is used to calculate the local mean time according to the standard time of that country. The value of local mean time is added to or subtracted from the standard time. If the place of standard time is in the east, then both the times are added. Whereas, if the place for standard time is in west then the two times are subtracted. For instance, the Standard Time of India is 82 degree and 30 minutes. The longitude of Delhi is 77 degree and 13 minutes. Delhi is situated on the west of the place for Standard Time. That is why, both the times will be subtracted. The difference between these two is 5 degree and 17 minutes. Also, 1 degree is equivalent to 4 minutes. Then,
5 Degrees 17 Minutes = 21 Minutes 68 second
This time will be subtracted from the local time of Delhi i.e 5 degree 3 minutes. In this way, we can find out the local time of Delhi.
