Dev Prabodhini Ekadashi Story
A story related to Dev Prabodhini is as follows. When Lord Sri Krishna's wife Satyabhama becomes very proud of her love and beauty, Lord Krishna decides to teach her a lesson. God creates a Lila to make her humble. One day Narada ji comes to her place of residence. Satyabhama tells him that in the next birth too she wants Lord Krishna as her husband. Narada tells her that will definitely be possible if she donates her favorite thing in this birth.
Narada tells Satyabhama since Shri Krishna is the dearest to you, you should give him away to me then in the next life you will definitely receive him. Satyabhama obliges and lets Shri Krishna go with Narada. When Narada is about to take Shri Krishna ji with him, other queens stop him. On this, Naradji says that if he receives gold and gems equal to Krishna, then he will not take Krishna along.
Shri Krishna sits on one pan of the scales and in the other pan everyone places ornaments but the pan does not move at all. Finally, Rukmini ji places a Tulsi twig on the pan. The pan instantly equalizes. Naradaji true to his words leaves Lord Krishna behind and takes the Tulsi twig along. Due to Tulsi, the good fortune of the queens was protected. Hence on this day, a fast is observed and Tulsi ji is worshiped.
