Lord Ganesha is considered to be the Lord of Chaturthi tithi. According to astrology, Lord Ganesha was born on this day. Due to this, Lord Ganesha is very fond of Chaturthi. Lord Ganesha is worshipped on Chandrodaya vyapini chaturthi of Krishna Paksha. It is believed that Lord Ganesha frees a person from all kinds of problems. A person is able to overcome all kinds of obstacles by worshipping him.

Each month’s Chaturthi is known by a different name. This year, Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha in Bhadrapad month will be celebrated as Angarki Chaturthi. This Chaturthi is known as Angarki Chaturthi because it will be celebrated on Tuesday. It is considered to be very auspicious if Chaturthi falls on a Tuesday. A person is blessed if he keeps a fast on this day. Keeping a fast on Angarki Chaturthi gives results which are equivalent to fasting on all Chaturthi during a year.

Angarki Ganesha Chaturthi Story

It is considered very auspicious if Ganesha Chaturthi is associated with Angarki. According to legends, Lord Mars, who was the son of Earth, worshipped Lord Ganesha and offered austerities. Lord Ganesha was impressed and blessed him. Lord Mars was known as Angarak due to his appearance which was red in color. Hence, this Chaturthi is known as Angarak Chaturthi.

Angarki Ganesha Chaturthi has been explained in Ganesha Purana. It explains how Lord Mars was blessed by Lord Ganesha and this Chaturthi came to be known as Angarki Chaturthi. A person who keeps a fast on this day is blessed by Lord Ganesha as well as Lord Mars. Such a person is able to overcome all kinds of problems. He is blessed by Lord Ganesha throughout his life and lives happily.

Sri Ganesha Angarki Chaturthi - Fast and Worship

Lord Ganesha is worshipped prior to worshipping any other Deva. He is considered to free a person of all problems. Lord Ganesha is the Lord of intelligence. A person who keeps a fast on this day is able to fulfill all his desires. His intellectual ability is also enhanced. Lord Ganesha is very fond of Chaturthi tithi. A person keeping this fast should wake up early and take a bath. Then he should take some water and druva in his hand and worship the following mantra :"Mam Savra Karma Siddheya Siddhi Vinayak Pujanmaham Karishye"

After this, an idol of Lord Ganesha made of gold, copper or mud should be established. A pot should be filled with water. It’s mouth should be covered with a cloth. The idol should be kept on this clean cloth. A person should not consume any food till he worships Lord Ganesha in the evening. Water should be poured to Lord Ganesha during Moon rise. Milk, supari, fragrance and rice are used for this. Lord Ganesha’s mantra is chanted :

Ganeshaya Namastubhyam Sarva Siddha Pradayak |
Sankashta Harmedeva Grahana Ghrayanmo Stute ||

Krishna Pakshe Chaturthyatu Sampujit Vidhudaye |
Kshi Pranprasi Dadevesh Grahana Ghrayanmo Stute ||

This way, a person keeping a fast on this day is able to fulfill all his desires. A person is free of all physical and mental problems. He is able to overcome all kinds of obstalces.
