Different views on when Gayatri Jayanti is celebrated

Different theories are popular with regards to Gayatri Jayanti Tithi. Some believe that it is to be celebrated on the Dashmi of Shukla Paksha in Jyeshtha month, Ganga Dussehra is also celebrated on this day. So it is celebrated on Ganga Dussehra. According to another fact, it is celebrated on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha in Jyeshtha month. Apart from this some also celebrate it on the Purnima of Shravan month.

Gayatri Jayanti Katha

There are several references to Gayatri Jayanti in mythology too. As per one such scripture Gayatri is considered the essence of Vedas. Lord Brahma has spoken on the origin of Gayatri. According to a popular story on Gayatri, once Lord Brahma wanted to organise a Yagya for the welfare of the world. When the Yagya was about to start, his wife Savatri was not present with him and so they could not start the Yagya in the Shubh Muhurat. When it got too late, Brahma Ji called Gayatri and asked her to sit beside him in the Yagya. This placement is reserved for the wife of the man who performs the Yagya. After some time, Savitri arrived and saw Gayatri sitting beside Brahma Ji as his wife. This is how Gayatri got married to Lord Brahma as per mythological stories.

One receives success and accomplishment by reciting this Mantra. Gayatri Mantra is considered scientifically valid too. It is a part of Param Brahma Kriya. Chanting the Gayatri Mantra is the easiest and quickest way of worshipping Lord. The devotee leads a successful life by walking on this path.

The Bhagavad Gita states the following verse on Gayatri - ‘Chando Mein Main Gayatri hu’, the importance of Gayatri can be studied from different facts available in Hindu Dharam. There are several different schools of thoughts in mythology on various Mantras however when it comes to Gayatri Mantra, all the saints of different communities agree on its immense power.

Gayatri has been worshipped in Atharva Veda. In Geeta it is considered as the giver of
age, life, power, fame, wealth and Brahmatej. As per Vishwamitra there is no Mantra equivalent to Gayatri in all the four Vedas. Many say that - Brahma Ji wrote a three step Gayatri which gives the summary of all the three Vedas, which means there is no other Mantra as pure and as divine as the Gayatri Mantra.
