The 30th Tithi of Jyeshtha month is called "Jyeshtha Amavasya". Special prayers for worship and Snan are organized on this Amawasya Tithi. There are several opinions about the Amavasya Tithi in Hindu Panchang. Some also consider this day important for carrying out certain specific activities. Jyeshtha Amavasya is also called Jeth Amavasya, Darsha Amavasya, Bhavuka Amavasya etc.

Providing food to the Brahmins brings in fruits equivalent to that of Sahastra Godan. Donating items made of milk or any other white items on Amavasya brings in positive results from the Moon.

    The most important task that is done on the day of Amasvaya is charity on behalf of one’s ancestors. One must wake up early in the morning and perform all activities at dawn for the ancestors. Jyeshtha Amavasya Shani Jayanti

Shani Jayanti is also celebrated on the day of Jyestha Amavasya. It is believed that Shani Dev was born on this day. Hence Shani is worshiped on this day on account of Shani Jayanti. Mantras and hymns related to Shani Dev are recited on this day. In astrology, Shani Dev is treated as one of the nine important planets. Astrology considers Shani Dev a judge of all the good and bad deeds of human beings. Worshiping Shani Dev on this day reduces the Saturn's malefic effects. It also eliminates problems related to Shani Dev.

Worshiping Shani Dev on Shani Jayanti gives one special fruit. When one performs rituals related to Shani Dev, observes fasts and does charity on the occasion of this Amavasya, all troubles related to Shani are removed and good Karma is achieved. In order to perform the Shani Puja one must wake up early in the morning, take a bath and light a lamp of mustard or sesame oil in front of a Peepal tree. One should chant the Shani Mantra "Om Shanishra Raya Namah". Items related to Shani Dev such as sesame, urad, black blanket, iron, clothes, oil etc. should be donated on this day.

Vat Savitri fast is observed on Jyeshtha Amavasya

"Vat Savitra", another important festival, also falls on the day of Jyeshtha Amavasya. Vat Savitri fast is observed by married women for the long life of their husbands. Observing this fast leads to quick fulfillment of wishes. Unmarried girls get the desired groom by worshiping on this day and the married women get the blessings of a happy married life and long life of their husband. The story of Satyavan and Savitri is heard on this day and the Peepal tree is worshiped. One who worships Shiva-Parvati especially on Jyeshtha Amavasya remains blessed forever.

There is also an age-old ritual of Deep Dan either on the banks of a holy river or in a temple at Dusk on Jyeshtha Amavasya. it is also considered very important to worship the Peepal tree, light a lamp in front of it and perform a Pradakshina around it. This brings in a lot of auspiciousness in the life of the devotee. On this day, you should wake up in the morning and meditate while reminiscing Isht Dev As per scriptures there is also a ritual of planting the POeepal tree and worshipping it on this day. It is believed those who do not have children should worship the Peepal tree for miraculous results. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva means Trideva reside in the Peepal tree. As per Puranas planting a peepal tree gives fruits equivalent to that of performing hundreds of Yagyas and the positive Karmas of one’s life increase. Worshipping the Peepal tree leads to destruction of sins, the attainment of wealth and foodgrains. When one performs Peepal tree’s Pradakshina, his/her longevity improves.
