Ashadha Purnima 2023 Date and Timing

On the Purnima Tithi of Ashadha month, Lord Vishnu and one’s Guru are worshipped. Ashadha Purnima is one of the important Purnimas. Special Puja and religious functions are organised on this day. The full moon looks very beautiful on Purnima.

Gopadma Vrat Puja

Gopadma Vrat is observed on Ashadha Purnima. Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day. The devotee should take a bath early in the morning and then worship Lord Vishnu for the entire day. He/she should recite various names of Lord Vishnu. Dhoop, Deep, Gandh, flowers, etc. should be used in the Puja. After the Puja, meals, clothes, jewellery, etc. should be donated to Brahmins.

Cows are also worshipped while observing this fast. The devotee should take the blessings of the cow after applying Tilak on it. One gets relief from all their sins if they observe the fast with complete devotion. It appeases Lord Vishnu and he fulfills all the wishes of the devotee. By observing this fast, the devotee gets all forms of happiness and attains Vishnu Loka.

Importance of Nakshatra Puja on Ashadha Purnima

Purnima Tithi is determined using Nakshatras in Hindu Panchang. Performing Ashadha Nakshatra Puja on this day is considered highly effective. If the Nakshatra of any native is Purvashada or Uttarashada, then donations and meditation on this day prove to be beneficial for these natives.

The name of every month is based on the placement of the Moon in a particular Nakshatra on Purnima Tithi. If the Moon is present in the Uttarashada Nakshatra or Purvashada Nakshatra on Ashadha Purnima then it is considered auspicious.

Perform Saraswati Puja on Ashadha Purnima

If a person worships Goddess Saraswati on this day, then the probability of receiving a good education goes up as Saraswati is the Goddess of education. This day is meant to expand one’s knowledge base. On this day, other Gurus along with Goddess Saraswati are worshipped. The picture and idol of the Goddess are placed for the Puja. A vessel filled with water is placed in front of the Goddess and then Lord Ganesha and Navgriha Puja is performed.

Garland and flowers are presented to the Goddess. Makeup items, Sindoor, etc. are also presented to the Goddess. Goddess Saraswati is adorned with white clothes. A yellow coloured fruit is presented to the Goddess while worshipping. Malpua and Kheer are offered as Bhog on this day.

Guru Purnima - Ashadha Month Purnima

Ashadha month Purnima is very important and it is also called Guru Purnima. Ashadha Purnima represents our respect towards the knowledge and love of our teachers.

A teacher is considered to be even above God. That’s why Guru Puja is performed on this auspicious day. A teacher can come in any form in a person’s life. It can be teachers, parents or anyone who enlightens us in our journey of life.

Importance of Ashadha Purnima

The festival of Guru Purnima is celebrated with great devotion and excitement in India. This age-old tradition depicts our respect for our teachers. In earlier times, students used to stay in
Ashrams with their Gurus. The disciples completely surrendered themselves to the teacher and were living to sacrifice anything for their Guru.

Eklavya is a classic example of being such a student. He respected his teacher so much that he did not think twice before chopping off his thumb and giving it to his Guru. The glory of a teacher can be summed in the following lines -

‘Gururbrahma, Gurur Vishnu Gururdevo Maheshvara,

Guru Sakshat Param Brahma Tasmai Shri Gurvey Namah.’
