This solar eclipse will begin in Nakshatra .The effects of this eclipse will hence be seen on the natives of these Nakshatras and zodiac signs. Therefore, the natives of these Nakshatras and zodiacs should chant Mantras and carry out charity during the eclipse time. The recitation of the Aditya Hridaya Strata and reciting the names of the Sun will be good for natives of all zodiac signs.

What to do during the solar eclipse

Some special things should be kept in mind at the time of the solar eclipse. As the environment changes because of the eclipse, there is an impact on everyone. Right before the solar eclipse begins basil or Durva should be added to the food items. Adding Tulsi or Durva to food items ensures food does not get spoilt.

• Mahamrityunjaya Mantra should be chanted during the solar eclipse.
• Chanting any Guru Mantra or other Mantras during the solar eclipse is extremely auspicious.
• One should chant the Panchakshari Mantra of Lord Shiva during the eclipse period to pacify the Kalsarp Dosha and also to get rid of the malefic effects of Rahu and Ketu.
• Chanting Mantras during this time is an extremely effective remedy. Mantra Siddhi is also obtained from this.
• A pregnant woman should avoid doing any kind of work during this time especially any task that involves cutting and sewing.
• One should bathe during an eclipse or after the eclipse ends.
• Gangajal should be consumed.
• Charity should be done.

• Sexual relations and love etc. should be avoided.
• One should not sleep at the time of the solar eclipse.
• One should avoid visiting the temple or touching the idols of any God.

Solar eclipse scientific basis

The Solar eclipse is a scientific astronomical event. At the time of the solar eclipse, the Moon, the Sun and the Earth come in the same line. When the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth, the light of the Sun gets interrupted for some time. This phenomenon is known as Solar Eclipse.

Solar eclipse legend

Besides the scientific basis, solar eclipse also has religious significance. An extremely ancient story related to this context is found in The Bhagavata, The Vishnu Purana and The Mahabharata. This story begins with the churning of the sea. The story goes like this: During the period of Prahlad, Vishnu’s one devotee gets killed. Under the reign of King Bali, the power of the demons increases immensely. The demons, with the help of their power, try to establish their supremacy over all the realms. On the other hand, due to the curse of sage Durvasa, the Devas are deprived of their power. As a result, King Bali’s reign got established in the whole world. Indra and other Devtas go to Brahma ji. They ask Lord Brahma to restore their powers. Lord Brahma asks the Devtas to seek shelter under Lord Vishnu. The Devtas then call out for help from Lord Vishnu. As a solution for the Devtas to establish supremacy again, Lord Vishnu suggests Samudra Manthan. Lord Vishnu befriends not only the Devtas but also the Danavas. The Devtas too speak to the kings of demons Bali. They persuade him to carry out the Samudra Manthan for the nectar from the sea as well as jewels. Bali agrees to carry out the Samudra Manthan with the Devtas. Mandarachal mountain is chosen for churning the sea and Vasuki Nag is made the rope. Lord Vishnu incarnates as a tortoise to stabilize the mountain and then the sea is churned by placing the Mandarachal mountain on the back of the tortoise. During this churning, a total of fourteen gems are excavated. All the gems are then distributed between the demons and the deities equally and finally the nectar is obtained. Dhanvantari appears with the urn of nectar but the demons take the urn of that nectar from Dhanwantari as they are powerful. As the Devatas do not have any power, they feel frustrated and cannot do anything. Lord Vishnu steps in to ensure the Devatas get the nectar. Lord Vishnu incarnates as Mohini. The demons get attracted to the Mohini form of Lord Vishnu. Mohini takes the Amrit Kalash from them and tells them she will serve the nectar. The demons are smitten by Mohini and agree to her immediately. The Devatas and the Demons sit separately. The demons are completely enthralled by Mohini and forget about the Amrit Paan. Taking advantage of this situation, Mohini starts serving the nectar only to the deities. However, a demon named Rahu realizes the trick. He incarnates himself as a Devata and sits with the Devatas. The Sun and the Moon recognize him, but its too late as by then Rahu had already consumed the nectar. The minute the sun and the moon recognize Rahu, Lord Vishnu separates his head from the body with the Sudarshan Chakra. But Rahu because Rahu had drunk the nectar he became immortal. From then on his head is called Rahu and Torso is called Ketu. For this reason, Rahu always eclipses the Sun and the Moon. This phenomenon is scientifically called the Solar Eclipse and the Lunar Eclipse.
