According to ancient scriptures, the Ashtami Tithi of both Krishna and Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month is associated with the arrival of Goddess Seeta on the earth. To understand the importance of Goddess Seeta’s incarnation amongst the incarnations of all the other Gods and Goddesses, one must start with her birth. We do not know much about this in the Vedas, but if we talk about the Puranas, then we find many stories related to Seeta ji’s birth. Similarly there are several folk stories which talk about Seetaji’s birth.

Being the daughter of Janak, she is also called Janki and Janaksuta. Being a Mithila Kumari, she is also known as Maithili. She got married to Lord Ram, the son of Ayodhya Naresh, King Dashrath. After that, her life was filled with ups and downs. Just as Goddess Sita is believed to have originated from the land, similarly Goddess Sita is considered to have departed in the earth in her last time.
