Worship of Goddess Gauri - Mangla Gauri Fast 2023 - Mangla Gauri Puja

Mangla Gauri worship is carried out every Tuesday in the Shravan month. This fast is considered to be extremely auspicious for married women. This year, this fast will begin from 23 July, 2024. Married women live a prosperous life by keeping this fast on Tuesdays. This fast is popularly known as Mangla Gauri fast. It is believed that Goddess Parvati offered austerities in order to marry Lord Shiva. In the same way, this fast provides longevity to a woman’s husband.

Mangla Gauri Story

A story is famous about Mangla Gauri fast. According to this story, a landlord named Dharmapal used to live with his wife in ancient times. Dharmapal was wealth and had a lot of property to his name. But, he was always worried as he didn’t have a child. He used to donate a lot of money and objects and used to worship the Lord to acquire blessings. Dharmapal was finally blessed with a son. But according to astrologer, his son did not have a long life. According to astrologers, his son would die because of a snake bite at the age of sixteen.

Dharmapal kept his faith in the Lord and married his son to a beautiful and obedient girl. This girl’s daughter used to fast for Mangla Gauri. As a result, the girl was blessed with her husband’s long life and Dharmapal’s son lived a long life.

Mangla Gauri Worship Procedure

Mangla Gauri worship should include fruits, garlands, Laddoo, Pan, Supari, Cardamom, Jeera, Coriander, Cloves, Saree, sixteen objects related to make-up, sixteen bangles and five different types of dry sweets. There should also be seven types of foods. This fast should begin on the first Tuesday of the Shravan month. A woman should wake up early on this day and take a bath. An idol or photo of Mangla Gauri should be placed on a wooden plank. It should be decorated with red clothes.

A lamp is made out of wheat flour. The flame should consist of four strips of 16 strands of thread. Lord Ganesha is worshipped first. Water, red thread, sindoor, sandalwood, supari, cloves, pan, rice, flowers, cardamom, bel leaves, fruits, sweets and money are offered to Lord Ganesha. The pot containing holy water should be worshipped next. It should be worshipped in the same way as Lord Ganesha is worshipped. The nine planets and sixteen goddesses are worshipped next. All the donated things are offered to a Brahmana.

The idol of Mangla Gauri is bathe in water, milk and curd. It is decorated with red clothes, sandalwood, sindoor, mehndi and kajal. The sixteen objects of make-up are used to decorate Mangla Gauri’s idol. Sixteen types of fruits, leaves and garlands are offered to the Goddess. The next step is to listen to Magla Gauri worship story. After listening to the story, the married woman should give sixteen laddoos to her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. The same is also offered to a Brahmana. Mangla Gauri’s idol is offered to a river on the next day of the last fast. This fast is kept in the same way for five years. After five years, Udyapan is also necessary. Goddess Gauri blesses everyone.
