Festival in the Month of Kartik : Katrik Sankranti 2023, 17th October

Worshipping Lord Vishnu, and lighting candles in the roots of Tulsi and Peepal tree is of great importance in the month of Kartik. The auspicious festivals like: Ahoi Ashtami, Dipawali, Akshaya Navami and Guru Nanak Jayanti(birthday) on Kartik Poornima will be celebrated in this month. This month is especially considered auspicious for flowing Diyas in the holy waters of pilgrimages like Ganges. On the day of Kartik Sankranti, Sun transits in Libra sign.


Ahoi Ashtami 17th October, 2023

Ahoi Ashtami fast is observed on the Ashtami(eighth) of Krishna Paksha in Kartik month. This festival is celebrated on the same day on which Diwali is celebrated. This fast is observed by the women for her child. In this fast, the mothers get up early in the morning before the sun rises, worships her God and observes fast for the full day. During the day, Ahoi Mata is worshipped and the katha is done. After sun-set, halva is offered to the Goddess and then it is consumed as a sacrament.


Rama Ekadashi Fast, 21st October, 2023

The Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha , Kartik month is called Rama Ekadashi. Observing this Ekadashi reduces the biggest of the big sins of life. The Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha yields equal results. Lord Shri Vishnu is worshipped in Ekadashi. On this day, fast is observed for full day and then Jagaran is done through-out the night. Worshipping Lord Vishnu from Tulsi leaves pleases him immediately and fulfills all the wishes of his devotees.


Dhan Trayodashi or Dhanwantari Jayanti: 23rd October 2023

Dev Dhanwantari was born on the day of Dhan Trayodashi. Dhan Trayodashi is also called Dhanteras. Worshipping Lord Dhanwantarika on this day yields auspicious results and blesses with good health. Moreover, buying and bringing silver idols of Shri Ganesh and Mata Laxmi in the auspicious Muhurt of Dhanteras keeps the flow of wealth and comfort throughout the year. On this day, sacraments made of Neem leaves is considered to be of great importance.


Shri Hanuman Birthday: 23rd October, 2023

On this day, the birthday of Lord Hanuman is celebrated. Devotess gather in large numbers in temples to worship him. After worshipping, Panchamrit is done with Ganga Jal, milk, curd, ghee, honey and then ordination is performed. On this day, Lord Hanuman is decorated with silver crown and new clothes and Vermilion is applied.


On the eve of Hanuman Birthday, observing fast and offering sacraments is considered beneficial. The devotee should chant the Hanuman Chalisa or the Stotras.


Kartik Amavasya, Diwali Poojan: 25th October, 2023

In 2023, Diwali will be celebrated, Amavasya of Kartik Krishna Paksha, Chitra Nakshatra. Maha Laxmi will be worshipped and celebrating Diwali by worshipping Laxmi Narayan, Kuber, Burning Deep(candles) and chanting Mantras from Pradosh period to mid of the night yields many auspicious results.


Govardhan Puja: 26th October, 2023

Govardhan Festival is celebrated on Pratipada of Kartik Shukla Paksha. Govardhan Pooja began when Lord Shri Krishna lifted Govardhan hill on one finger to break the ego of Indra. This festival is mainly celebrated in north India.


In this festival, farming equipments and animals are worshipped. The animals like cows and oxes are given bath and then worshipped with flowers, garlands, dhoop, sandalwood etc.. In the evening the image of Shri Krishna is formed with cow dung and worshipped.


Panchak Begins: 01st November 2023

Panchak will begin on 01st November at 14:16 minutes and will end on 06th November at 00:04 minutes. Auspicious works should be avoided during this period or else you may have to do the same thing five times.


Akshay Navami 02nd November 2023

The ninth(Navami) date of Kartik Shukla Paksha is called Akshay Navami festival. On the day of Akshay Navami, Pumpkin is worshipped with perfume, flowers and Akshat. On this day, worshipping Lord Vishnu with Tulsi is considered auspicious and getting Tulsi married with all the rituals yields results as of Kanyadan(Giving away of Bride). The Pooja started on Akshay Navami continues for three days.


Prabodhini Ekadashi Fast: 04th November 2023

On Prabodhini Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu is worshipped and Tulsi is married. Bhishm Panchak will also begin on the same day. In north India, marriage or other auspicious works are not done on the day of Bhishm Panchak but everybody does not agree to this belief.


This festival is especially celebrated in the hilly regions of North India. On this day, fast is observed and bath is taken in the Ganges. The song of Tulsi Poojan performed during Kartik month is also sung. In the evening, Tulsi is worshipped and sacraments are offered and then it is distributed and consumed.


Shri Guru Nanak Birthday: November 08th November, 2023

The bath of Kartik month ends on Kartik Poornima. This Poornima is also known by the name of Tripuree Poornima. As compared to other months, Kartik Poornima has its own importance. The tradition of bath and donation is of great importance on this day.
