Find out 2024 Panchak Dates with Start and End Timings

Panchak means five, the repetition of a task and decline in auspiciousness. It is believed that any task which is carried out on Panchak Tithi gets done five times. This is calculated on the basis of Nakshstara. The period between the third phase of Dhanishta Nakshatra till the Revati Nakshatra is computed as the Panchak period. This is because the transit period of the Moon from the Aquarius sign until the Pisces sign is known as Panchak.

In order to understand this even more easily, we can that when the Moon transits between the Aquarius sign and the Pisces sign then it commences from the first half of the of Dhanishta Nakshatra and also goes to the Shatabhisha Nakshatra , Purvabhadra Nakshatra, Uttara Bhadrapada Nakshatra and Revati Nakshatra. Moon's transit is known as “Panchak Kaal”. One Nakshatra is crossed each day. So the transit period between Dhanishta and Revati totals to 5 days and is known as Panchak.

Panchak is not considered auspicious on many counts. Panchak dates are checked before carrying out certain tasks. Only tasks that do not lead to any harm are done on Panchak dates.

The following tasks can be done on Panchak dates:

  • Traveling towards the southern direction is not advisable. Any journey undertaken towards the southern side will lead to problems.
  • Building a roof of a house, bungalow or workplace should be avoided. If construction is carried out in this period then the probability of an accident or a problem increases.
  • It is not advisable to buy a bed during this period.
  • Performing the last rites should also be avoided.
  • It is also forbidden to make bamboo mats, build walls, pillars etc, buy copper, brass, grass, weeds or wood items.

These are some important tasks that should be avoided in the Panchak period. Performing these tasks can lead to sadness and inauspiciousness.
