In hinduism,  Amavasya tithi takes an important position. On the day of Amavasya, a person remembers his ancestors and with a sense of reverence their shradh is done. Havan is done to provide peace to our ancestors. Brahmins are offered food and charity. According to scriptures, the lord of this Tithi is Pitradev. The significance of this day is the fulfillment of forefathers.

According to scriptures, the ancestors should be pleased before the gods. The people who have pitra dosh, no child yog or Rahu is debilitated in the ninth house in their birth chart these people should keep this fast for sure. Keeping this fast will fulfill all hopes and objectives. According to Vishnu Purana, if you keep the amavasya fast with feelings then not only the ancestors are satisfied, but also Brahma, Indra, Rudra, Ashwini kumar, Surya, Agni, Ashtvasu, Vayu, Vishnudev, Rishi, humans,animals- birds and reptiles etc and all the ghosts are satisfied and happy.
