Dates of Shivratri Muhurat and Puja in 2024
Shivratri is a very important day for worshipping Lord Shiva. Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha each month is known as Krishna Paksha. In this way, Shivratri occurs each month.
Traditionally it is believed that Lord Shiva appeared on earth in the form of Linga on the day of Chaturdashi, hence Chaturdashi is celebrated as Shivratri. Besides this, several stories connect Chaturdashi with Lord Shiva. These stories talk about calming down Lord Shiva’s anger, stopping catastrophic events, the marriage of Lord Shiva etc. and many such important occurrences on Shivratri. Hence every Chaturdashi, especially nights are celebrated as Jagran and Shiv Puja is done.
Falgun month Shivratri is known as Mahashivaratri and it is celebrated with a lot of excitement throughout India. Similarly, the Shivratri that occurs in the monsoon period also holds a lot of importance.
Devotees who seek the blessings of Lord Shiva can do so by observing a fast on this day. The fast commences at the start of Chaturdashi day and goes on the full night in the form of Jagran. The Jagran at night and Shiv Puja holds special importance during Shivratri. Puja is performed in the middle of the night. It is believed when Shiv Puja is done at night, the native is blessed with a lucky and happy life. All his/her problems and obstacles are taken care of.
Procedure for Shiv Puja
Shivratri Puja should be commenced with a pure heart. Lord Shiva is incarnated as Bhole, so even the simplest form of worship will please Lord Shiva instantly. The devotion of the devotee and unconditional love is all it takes to please Lord Bholenath ji.
One must sit on a clean Asan and start with the Puja. Lord Ganesha and Goddess Gauri should be worshipped. Gangajal and Panchamrit should be offered on Shivling by chanting the name of Lord Shiva.
Bilipatar, flowers, perfume, Akshat should be offered to Lord Shiva. White clothes and Janeu should be offered to Lord Shiva. Red Chunni and vermillon should be offered to Goddess Gauri. Panchakshari Mantra should be chanted and incense sticks, lamps should be lit. After the Aarti and chanting of Shiv Chalisa, Naivedya should be offered to Lord Bhole. Prasad should then be distributed amongst all the devotees. This is the procedure to perform Shivratri Puja.
