According to the hindu lunar calendar, the fasts observed on the Krishna paksha Chaturthi tithi or fourth day after Poornima, is known as Ganesh Chaturthi. On this day Lord Ganesha is worshipped. Lord Ganesha removes all the difficulties of the devotees who do fasting on this day, that is why it is also known as Vighna Harta. A person observing this fast should wake up early in the morning and take a bath.
After keeping the fast, during the evening time fruits, flowers, rice, roli, moli are offered to Lord Ganesha. After giving a bath with panchamrit, ladoos and dishes made with sesame are also offered to Lord Ganesha. The worshipper should face East or North while performing the puja ceremonies. Chant Lord Ganesha mantra after performing all the rituals.
In the evening Lord Ganesha aarti should be performed after completing the puja rituals. The person who fasts on this day leads to happiness and prosperity. By fasting on this day, a devotee is blessed by Lord Ganesha. The person gets success in business and career. He attains mental peace and lives a prosperous and happy life.
Those who cannot or are not able to observe fast on this day can donate things to poor people as per their potency. You can donate warm clothes, blankets, etc to the poors. After offering ladoos to Lord Ganesha, they should be distributed amongst the poor as a prasad. In addition to laddoo, many other food items can also be distributed amongst poor.
