6 Nakshatras from amongst 27 Nakshatras are called Gandmool Nakshatras. These are Jyeshtha, Ashlehsa, Revati, Mool, Magha and Ashwini. As per Jyotish Shastra, the gap between the end of one Nakshatra and the beginning of another is called Gandmool.

Gandamool Nakshatras are formed on the basis of the start and end of the zodiac signs and Nakshatras. Cancer Sign and Ashlesha Nakshatra end simultaneously, so Ashlesha is considered as Gand Nakshatra, Leo sign and the Magha Nakshatra start together so Magha is considered Gand Nakshatra, Jyestha is said to be a Ganda Nakshatra as Scorpio Sign and Jyestha Nakshatra end together.
Sagittarius sign and Mool Nakshatra begin together and so Mool Nakshatra is considered Gand Nakshatra. Similarly, when Pisces sign and Revati Nakshatra end simultaneously, Revati is called Gand Nakshatra and as Aries and Ashwini Nakshatra begin simultaneously, Ashwini is called Gand Nakshatra.
Gandmool Nakshatra Shanti Pooja
Traditionally the 27th day from the date of the birth of a native-born in Gandmool Nakshatra is considered ideal for Gand Mool Shanti Puja. This Puja is done by experienced Brahmins. The Nakshatra Mantra is chanted while performing this Puja. Water from 27 wells, soil from 27 pilgrimage sites, froth from the sea, a pot with 27 holes, the leaves of 27 trees, 7 types of grains, etc. are used in the worship to ensure peace.
