Amavasya Tithi - Hindu Calendar Tithi | Amavasya Tithi : Pitra Tarpan

Amavasya Tithi denotes darkness. The Moon is not seen at all and there is total darkness. On this Tithi, Diyas are lighted at various places such as the gate of the house, at crossings, near tanks, and rivers sides. This is an old tradition. It is believed that this not only spreads lights but also leads us to face the challenges of life and deal with them. It prepares us and makes us internally strong.

Just as we get rid of darkness on Amavasya by lighting lamps, our inner strength enables us to face obstructions and challenging situations in life. This Tithi occurs once a month during Krishna Paksha.

Amavasya Tithi Yoga

On Amavasya Tithi, Krishna Paksha ends and Amavsya Tithi Yoga starts from Pratipada after Shukla Paksha Purnima. On this day the Sun and the Moon are on the same degrees.

Amavasya Tithi: Pitra Tarpan

The Devas of this Tithi are our ancestors. On this day we try to satiate our ancestors. This is the last date of the lunar month and this day is not suitable for other works. Amavasya is left out for Muhurta and other auspicious works.

On this day only Lord Shiva is worshipped and Shiva Mantra is chanted. It is believed that a person worshiping ancestors on this day gets salvation and his ancestors get peace. On this day, people bathe in various holy rivers and do charitable deeds. Several people worship of their favorite deity and derive fruitful results as mentioned in ancient scriptures.

A native-born on Amavasya

Those born on Amavasya are long-lived and settled away from home. They are courageous and can carry out tough jobs using their intellect. They try to acquire as much knowledge as possible. At times their advice is of no use to others. These natives struggle in life and face bear physical as well as mental pain. They are confronted by their own people. They remain unsatisfied in life. On this day they should donate food to the poor, plant a peepal tree and worship the same. They should also donate for the sake of ancestors.

Festival of Amavasya

This day lets one express gratitude to the ancestors. Donation, worship and fasting done on this day to for satiating the ancestors will bring auspiciousness to the native. If Amavasya falls on Monday then it is called Mauni Amavasya, if on Tuesday then it is called Bhomvati Amavasya and if it falls on a Saturday it is called Shani Amavasya. The date on which Amavasya Yoga falls is very important. It gets its significance from the date on which it occurs.

Hariyali Amavasya -

Amavasya falling in the month of Shravan month is called Hariyali Amavasya. On this day Lord Shiva is worshiped. There are a lot of changes in the weather. This Amavasya is considered for ancestral worship.

Kushagrahrhin Amavasya -

Amavasya falling in the month of Bhadrapada month is called Kushagrahirhi. On this day grass or Kusha is plucked and is used for religious activities throughout the year.

Kartik Amavasya -

Amavasya falling in the month of Kartik is called Kartik Amavasya. Diwali is celebrated on this day. This day is considered good for Tantra and Mantra and favorable for all religious activities.

Mouni Amavasya -

Amavasya falling in the month of Magha. According to an old belief, Gods gather at Sangam and taking a bath in Ganga on the day of Mouni Amavasya is considered fruitful.
