Brahmagupta
Brahmagupta is named among the great mathematicians of India. His teachings are even used today. Brahmagupta was not only a great mathematician, but he was also a qualified astrologer. He has even proved a relationship between mathematics and astrology in his scriptures. He laid the foundation for astrology and its implementation in day to day life.
The period of Brahmagupta is from 598 B.C. It has been derived that he was appointed at a prominent position in an astrological institute in Ujjain. The scriptures written by Brahmagupta on Jyotisha and mathematics were used by Bhaskaracharya.

Scriptures written by Brahmagupta
Brahmagupta has written two astrological texts namely, ‘Brahmagupta Siddhanta' & ‘Khandakhadyaka'. It is believed that when these two texts were written there was a conflict between Buddhists and Sanatandharmis.
The controversy was fanned more when a Buddhist scribe wrote a book called ‘Lavanmushti'. This scripture acted like fuel in the fire. In order to tackle this animosity Brahmagupta Ji wrote a text known as ‘Khandkhadyak'.
This scripture was written to spread happiness amongst the masses. Apart from scriptures on astrology, Brahmagupta has even written laws on algebra. He became a famous mathematician of his time. Scriptures written by him are famous by the names ‘Asind Hindi' and ‘Khandakhadyaka' in Arabian countries.
Brahmagupta Jyotishacharya considers the earth as still and he opposes Aryabhatt's principle which is based on the movement of the earth. The Khandakhadyaka scripture written by Brahmagupta mentions the rules of astrology.
Brahmagupta & his sources
Brahmagupta carried out several experiments in Jyotisha and has contributed significantly to Vedic mathematics. In the texts written, he has also written about the calculation of planets, thoughts on constellations and Yogas made in astrology.
Brahmagupta has not differentiated himself from the ideology of religion and Dharmakand. When he presented his thoughts on eclipse, Albaruni opposed it and said - ‘If religious deeds are to be believed, then why do you calculate the diameter of the Earth's shadow to explain the lunar eclipse of the Sun?'. Due to this, he was criticized on certain matters but his mathematical and astrological principles showcased his abilities to everyone.
The creation of the world began on the day of Ravi after the birth of the Sun in Lanka region from Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. It is from this time that the day, month, year, era and the cycle begins, that is, the time of origin of all these was the Pratipada date of Chaitra Shukla.
How is Solar eclipse & Lunar eclipse calculated?
Brahmagupta stated his ideologies about zero, in which he specified it as an independent number. He talked about the usage of zero, but there was a lack in his theory as a result, was not accepted.
Important -
Many of the rules laid down by Brahmagupta were adopted by the modern Acharyas. Bhaskaracharya one such prominent Acharyra wrote a book based on the rules laid down by Brahmagupta. His works were later translated into Arabic. He also named Brahmagupta's Brahmasputa text as "Sindhind" and Khanda Khadyak as "Alkarand".
