The date after Saptami Tithi of Chandra Maas is known as Ashtami Tithi. Since there are two Pakshas in Chandra, this Tithi comes twice in a month. The Tithi of Shukla Paksha is known as Shukla Paksha Ashtami. Pakshas are determined through Purnima and Amavasya. Krishna Paksha starts after Purnima and Shukla Paksha starts after Amavasya. The ruling Lord of this Tithi is Lord Shiva. This Tithi comes under the category of Jaya Tithis.

Radha Ashtami festival is celebrated on the Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapad month. It is believed that Radha ji came into existence on this day. As per Padma Purana, Radha ji was born to Raja Vrishbhanu after a Yajna performed by Raja Vrishbhanu. Radha Ashtami is celebrated as a big festival in Vrindavan, Barsana and Brija.

Sita Ashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in Falgun month. This festival is also known as Sita or Janki Jayanti.
