Narsingh Jayanti 2019 - Nar Singh Jayanti Fast Method (Narasimha Avtar)

The fast of Narshingh Jayanti is observed on Chaturdashi of Shukla Paksha, Vaishaka Masa. In the year 2019, this fast will be observed on 17th May. On this day, Lord Vishnu brooked a pillar and came out for saving his devotee Prahlada. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Narsingh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Fast is observed and in the noon time, mantras are chanted while bathing, on this day. Lord Narasimha is the Lord of power and strength. 

Narasimha Jayanti Fast Procedure

For Puja, the place is painted with cow dung. In an urn, copper etc are put in. Then Ashtadal-Kamal(8 petals of Lotus flower) is made. In this, a person should make donation of cow, Til, clothes etc. as per his capacity. In the ancient days, idol of Lord Narsingh was the symbol of Vijay Nagar rulers. 

Narsingh Fast Story

According to the scriptures, there was a king named Kashyap. His wife was Diti, who gave birth to 2 sons: Hiranayaksha and Hiranayakashyapu. Hiranayaksha was killed by Varah, incarnation of Lord Vishnu. As a result, Hiranyakashyapu did meditation and pleased Lord Brahma and Shiva. By the boon of Lord Brahma, he became invincible. By the pride of blessing, he started doing oppressions on people of his kingdom. 

Then, his wife Kayadhu gave birth to Prahlada. Hiranyakashyapu tried many ways to disincline Prahlad from worshipping Lord Vishnu. But he could not succeed. Finally, he decided to kill him and planed many conspiracies. Like, throwing him from a peak of mountain, drowning him in sea, left him in a cell of snakes, kept him infront of a mad elephant, burning him in fire.

But, nothing could happen to him. Once, angry Hiranyakashyapu, pointed a sword on Prahlada and asked who was his God. Prahalad asked softly that God is everywhere. Hiranyakashyapu asked, if God was in the pillar. Prahlad said yes. So, Hiranyakashyapu started striking on the pillar. 

Then, Lord Narsingh kept Hiranyakashyapu on his lap and tore his his stomach with sharp nails. Seeing this, Prahlad asked for the salvation of this father’s soul. Lord fulfilled his wish and pleased by his worshipping, Lord said that people who will observe my fast, on this day, will achieve salvation. 

Narsingh Avtar is incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Hence, on this day Lord Narasimha is worshipped.
