There is a tradition of marriage matching through kundli in North and South India. There are some similarities as well as dissimilarities in the kundli matching system in these regions. VarnaVarna koota is used in both South and North India but there are some differences in the methods.
In this article we will discuss the differences between the methods of determining the Varna koota in Northern and Southern India.
Vedic astrology has divided the signs in to 4 Varna which are Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces falls in to the category of first Varna, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are second Varna, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn comes under the third Varna whereas the fourth Varna signs are Gemini, Aquarius and Libra.
For marriage matching astrologers in North India consider Varna of the sign which is a part of the Asht koota. It is very auspicious for the bride and groom if their birth sign falls in same Varna.
If in this chart the Varna of the bride is lower then her groom’s Varna then it is a normal match but if the groom’s Varna is lower then his bride’s Varna then it then the Varna is not considered matched.
From the above analysis it is clear that astrologers in North India give prime importance to the signs. Predictions are offered on the basis of the position of the signs in a kundli. In South Indian varna system, more importance has been given to the Nakshatra. .
In this respect, the Madhviyam Granth (mythical book) perfectly described nakshatra, its categories and communities etc. Astrologists in South India give importance to the Varna of nakshatra of couples in marriage matching.
In South Indian way the 27 nakshatra starting from Ashwini to Revati are divided in to four Varna. The Varna of nakshatra are classified in such a way that all nakshatras are divided under the four varna.
The pattern is from above to bottom and bottom to above as the four Varna are Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra have nakshatra starting from Ashwini to Rohini, then again beginning from Mrigashira to Pushya and in this format the nakshatras are categorized up to Revati.
There are six nakshatra in Shudra Varna whereas other three Varna have seven nakshatras.the methods of prediction are same in South and North India. According to the South Indian astrologers it is excellent for the bride and groom if their nakshatra falls under the same Varna.
If the groom’s birth nakshatra is higher then his bride’s birth nakshatra then it is a normal match. But astrology says that the Varnas do not match if the bride’s varna is higher.
