In this article we will discuss about the mundan sanskar or the chudakaran sanskar. This sanskar also has its own principles. In this sanskar a child’s head is shaved for the first time after his birth. Hence, a child is given the teaching of cleanliness in this ritual. Let’s understand the inner significance of this ritual in one’s life.
According to the religious texts a soul gets human body after experiencing 84 lakh yonis. It is said that every yoni has its influence on human birth. A child’s hairs on the head are shaven as a gesture of purification from the previous yonis.
A person’s intelligence is developed in his or her infancy days. This sanskar is done to trigger intelligence and knowledge in the child. The muhurats for mundane sanskar are as follows:
Time
Astrologers say that this sanskar should be performed in the odd years i.e. the 1st, 3rd, 5th or 7th years after a child’s birth. According to astrological principles the even years such as the 2nd, 4th or 6th years are not auspicious for mundane sanskar.
Elder son or daughter’s chudakaran should be done when Sun is on the Taurus sign. Mundan sanskar of child aged 5 years or less should be cancelled if his or her mother is more than 5 months pregnant.
Aspect of Sun
The day of mundan sanskar should have the transition of Sun on Capricorn, Aquarius, Aries, Taurus or Gemini, which is considered to be very auspicious.
Consideration of nakshatra
For chudakaran sanskar Swati, Punarwasu, Shravan, Ghanistha, Shatavisha, Ashwini, Hasta, Pushya, Mrigashira, Revati, Chitra and Jyestha are very auspicious. The day of the sanskar should have any one of these nakshatras.
Consideration of lunar day
The chudakaran of a child should be fixed on the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th or 13th lunar days of a month. These days are very auspicious for this ritual.
Consideration of a week day
Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are good for performing the mundan sanskar of a child. According to astrologers these days are very auspicious.
Ascendant
Ascendant is one of the prime factors of the muhurat of mundan sanskar. Except the Ascendant of the 8th sign from the child’s Moon sign, all other Ascendants are auspicious for this ceremony. In this sanskar an auspicious planet’s Ascendant and navamsha are considered which has a benefic planet in the Kendra and triangular houses and a malefic planet on the 3rd, 6th or 11th houses. An empty 8th house makes the muhurat excellent.
Restriction
Astrology says that mundan sanskar should be cancelled if the Moon transits on the 4th, 8th or 12th house from the birth sign of the child. Besides this the sanskar should be avoided if the 3rd, 5th or 7th house has tara dosha
