Kamika Ekadashi is celebrated on the day of Ekadashi during the Krishna Paksha of Shravan month. This year, Kamika Ekadashi will be celebrated on 13th July 2023. Kamika Ekadashi is the best period for worshipping Lord Vishnu. Keeping a fast on this day frees a person from sins and problems. Ekadashi eradicates all problems and fulfills all desires. Kamika Ekadashi is considered to be the best time for worshipping Lord Vishnu. It is believed that the story about this Ekadashi was told by Lord Krishna to Yudhishtir. Prior to this, it was told by Saint Vashishta to King Dilip, who attained salvation.

Kamika Ekadashi Story

In ancient times, there was a landlord in a village. Once this landlord had a fight with a Brahmana and killed him out of anger. The landlord wanted to repent by being a part of the Brahmana’s cremation rituals, but was denied the permission. Hence, he was cursed with a Brahmana’s killing. The landlord asked a saint if he could get rid of the sin. The saint advised him to keep a fast on Kamika Ekadashi. The landlord kept a fast in the same way as he was told by the saint. At night, the landlord was sleeping besides the Lord’s idol. Lord Vishnu appeared in his dream and freed him of his sins. He was finally forgiven by the Lord.

Kamika Ekadashi Worship

On the day of Ekadashi, a person should take a bath early in the morning followed by a prayer dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The person should not consume water during the whole day and should keep on worshipping Lord Vishnu. Panchamrit, flowers, fruits, milk and sesame seeds should also be offered to Lord Vishnu. Feeding a Brahmana and giving him some money holds immense importance on the day of Kamika Ekadashi. A person keeping this fast gets whatever he desires.

Kamika Ekadashi Importance

Kamika Ekadashi gives auspicious results. A person worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day is blessed. Taking baths in places of religious pilgrimage is also considered to be important on this day. Kamika Ekadashi is as auspicious as Ashwamedha yagya. A person should take a bath early morning and offer various delights and delicacies to Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu’s aarti should include dhoop, lamps, sandalwood etc.

Worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day also frees a person from Pithru dosha. A person is able to free himself of material desires and attains salvation. It is believed that a person worshipping Lord Vishnu during Shravan month is blessed and gets equivalent results as worshipping snakes and gandharva. Lord Vishnu is most impressed when he is worshipped with Tulsi leaves. A person worshipping Lord Vishnu with Tulsi leaves is able to free himself of all sins.

Kamika Ekadashi worship gives results equivalent to yagyas. Lord Vishnu is worshipped on Kamika Ekadashi. A person worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day gets auspicious results.
