According to astrology, there are certain phases or periods which are not considered auspicious to perform marriage rituals. These phases are : displacement of Venus and Jupiter, Solar or Lunar eclipse, Pitra Paksha, Bhishma Panchak etc. Performing marriage ceremonies in these periods are not considered auspicious. Only auspicious dates are considered to conduct marriage in Hindu culture.
Moon sign of the bride and groom are taken into consideration while calculating an auspicious date for marriage. Other factors such as the phases of Nakshatra in which bride and groom were born and the letter corresponding to it are also considered while calculating the date. The date of the marriage should be taken out only after matching the compatibility chart of the bride and groom.
Out of all the possible dates calculated, one which is common according to the moon sign of the bride and groom is finalized to conduct marriage. For example : If an Aries man is getting married to a Cancer woman, then the common dates thus calculated will be auspicious for marriage. Following dates are auspicious for marriage. Dates are calculated on the basis of Moon signs. All the important factors such as, Tribal shudhi, Surya-chandra shudhi etc. are taken into consideration while calculating them.
Time period prohibited to marry in 2013
Jupiter Astudaya (set and rise)
Guru (Jupiter) will set in West on 6th June (21:52) and rise again on 2nd July at 22:41, in East.
Venus Astudaya (set and rise)
Venus will set on 10th to 1 February, 2013 in East and rise again from West on 22nd April, Monday. Venus will suffer from Balyatava Dosha from 23rd to 25th April.
Special Note - The period of 7 days between rise of Jupiter and Venus will have Balyatva dosha and the 7 day period between Jupiter and Venus set will have Vardhakaya dosha. Both the period will be considered auspicious for marriage.
Khandgras Lunar Eclipse
Khandgras Solar Eclipse will be visible in India on 25th April, Thursday (Chaitra Purnima).
Pitra Paksha / Shraddha Paksha
Shraadh will begin on 20th September and will last till 4th October. This period is also not considered appropriate to perform marriage rituals.
The period of Bhishma Panchak is 13th November to 17 November. This period is not considered auspicious for marriage in various states of India, such as Punjab, Himachal, Jammu etc. But in other states, it is not considered inauspicious for marriage.
The period of Holashtak is 20th March to 27 March. This period is not considered auspicious for marriage.
Marriage Muhurat in Chaturmasya
The period of Chaturmasya i.e Ashadh Shukla 11 to Kartik Purnima is considered auspicious in various states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal pradesh, Jammu kashmir etc.
Marriage rituals are not performed in the Paush month.
