According to the Narad – Panchratra, once Goddess Kali decided to come back to her original form and hence disappeared. When Lord Shiva was unable to find her, he asked Lord Narad to look for her. Lord Narad informed him that Goddess Kali could be found in the North of Smairu. Lord Shiva sent Lord Narad to the goddess with a marriage proposal. Hearing to the proposal, goddess got furious and in this state of wrath, a destructive shadow appeared through her body which came to be known as “Tripura Bhairavi”.

She is worshipped in thirteen different forms and each form possesses an extraordinary power in itself. Goddess Tripura Bhairavi wears a garland of flowers in her hands. Her hands are raised to bless her devotees and provide them with protection against all evils. She wears red clothes and holds a book of wisdom in one of her hands. The devotee should use things of red colour while worshipping Goddess Tripura Bhairavi to get good results.
