Ashad month is the fourth month of the Hindu calendar. It depicts the arrival of rain and change in the weather. Ashad month is liked by Lord Vishnu. Many festivals and occasions are celebrated in this month. Just like other months, donations and charity in this month are very important. During this month, fasts hold great importance. Lord Vaman is worshipped in this month. Donating an umbrella, wooden slippers and gooseberry (amla) to a Brahmin is considered highly auspicious and it gives unforeseen results.

According to an ancient story, it is said that farmers should complete all the tasks related to planting of seeds prior to this month. In many parts of India, many religious fairs are organized in this month. The religious importance of this month starts from the middle of the month when the Rath Yatra starts in the Puri district of Orissa. Apart from this Devshayanai Ekadashi is also celebrated in this month. After which all the auspicious and religious work cannot be performed for a period of one month. It is believed that Gods are sleeping during this time. Another Ekadashi that is celebrated in this month is Padha Ekadashi.

Vaivasvat Surya Saptami

Vaivasvat Surya, which originated on Purvashada is worshipped on the Saptami of Shukla Paksha. This Saptami provides good health to the worshipper. The native gets happiness and family support.

Ashad Purnima

Different forms of the Goddesses are worshipped in this month. This Navratri is celebrated for ten Maha Vidya Puja. This Navratri is known as Gupt Navratri because Paishachik, Vamachari Tantrik rituals are carried out during this time. These Pujas are supposed to bear fruits quickly. Goddess Kali and Mahakal are worshipped and along with them Dakini, Shakini, Shulini etc are also worshipped.

Ashad Amavasya

On this day worshipping Lord Yam in the name of ancestors holds great importance. Charity and bathing in holy rivers absolves the native of all sins. The native will be blessed with happiness.
